Barndom by Stephen West - Updated 12/7

Good Morning All
My wife and I make frequent trips to Memphis to visit our son and his family. Only a few miles from his hime is a great knit shop called Yarniverse. If you are ever headed to the city you need to plan to pay the shop a visit. During one of our visits last fall I picked up West Knits Book 4 "Made for Movement". Stephen is a great designer and many of his projects I find very interesting. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, he caught the knitting bug and started designing patterns in the Chicago area while attending school for dance. Now based in Amsterdam he travels frequently throughout Europe and the United States.

The lead off design in Book 4 is a design called Barndom. It is a top down triangular shawl. The entire fabric is worked in garter stitch with columns of stockinette slipped stitches that travel to form bold geometric shapes. I am making the 3 color version. The fibre I have chosen is Dyeabolical's Yakety Yak (60% super wash merino, 20% yak, 20% silk) fingerling Weight. It is knitted on 40" US4/3.5mm circular needles. The pattern is comprised of three sections and I'll post a picture of each section as I complete it. Just posted a picture of section 1 and the two setup rows for section 2

I hope everyone is doing well and has a great weekend and a wonderful holiday this coming week, JRob

11/28 showing detail of section 2 in last photo. Hope everyone had a great holiday and are enjoying the weekend. JRob

12/7 just finished the first 6 rows of section 3, nearing the end of the project.

Interesting color combination...I look forward to seeing how it all knits up.

Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
