I gues it was my excitement. Here they are
Well here they are guys just finished my first pair.
Took me just over a week to do and I am really chuffed. In answer to you question JPaul, yeah the yarn I used was opal and I used 2.5mm dpn's. Cant wait to start me next pair.
Thanks for all you guys for your encouraging comments I've recieved. Nice to chat to other men who share the same passion for knitting.
For those of you who expressed interest in my balls, I present to you the latest incarnation of my cat ball toy!
The pattern that came with my 'learn to knit' kit resulted in a ball toy that is more appropriately called a kitten ball. Sure, they were popular among my 12 lbs. and 17 lbs. neutered males, but my cats aren't kitties, they're CATS, and big, butch ones at that, so some alteration to the pattern was clearly in order.
I started out adding an additional row of knit 1, invisible increase, repeat and a resulting additional row of knit 2 together, repeat later in the pattern. The end product was a significantly larger ball, approximately the size of an egg and was very popular with my boys.
I make handcrafted, high quality hardwood knitting needles. I am an experienced woodworker, and have combined my interest in knitting to my interest in woodworking. Pictures of many of the needles I have made can be seen at www.geocities.com/outerbanksneedles . Most of the needles pictured there now have been sold. Others are frequently made. Check the site for updates, or requests to be emailed pics of new needles, before they are put on the website. Collectors often get them before the pic makes it to the website.
You need to check out Parrot's profile and go to his web page and look at his hand made needles... they are great.
OK, I admit it. I've caught knitting fever. Yesterday I stopped by Michael's for some more yarn for my Mother's Day project, which is nearing completion. While I was there, I saw that they had some really cute and soft novelty yarn (Wild! by Moda Dea) for $1 per ball. I've been wanting to try knitting with novelty yarns for awhile, so I picked up a ball, thinking I'd whip out a few cat toys to give this yarn a try.
When I got home, I noticed that Michael's regular selling price for this yarn is $8.99 per ball. Well, this was more than the cheapskate Pennsylvania Dutch in me could handle so I had to go back today to clean them out. While I was at it, I picked up a few balls of Moda Dea's Ticker Tape as well since it was also on clearance $8.99 down to $1.
I just had a night out with my friends who knit. We were talking about our different knitting bags, and what we carry in them. There was some pretty funky stuff there! So....What does your knitting bag look like....and what do you carry in it?
I currently use 2. One is black microfibre with a blue "J" embroidered on it. I use that for travel. My favorite right now is just a lined blue straw totle bag I use in the summer.
Inside I have
Has anyone used birch knitting needles? Or any other type of wood? I have seen glass ones too. Has anyone ever seen or used them?
Should there be any DFW metroplex men kitters... or if you guys know any that you can send my way.. I'm trying to get one together. And you know what? Contacting guy knitters in your area is DARN difficult. I've already gone through the members list but so far to no avail.
So, I know you are out there and I'm a gonna find ya!
MWK's sister site is born! Same great features, such as blogs, message forums, and image galleries, but just for the ladies.
