BEST! RHINEBECK! EVER!

Honestly, by Friday it was beginning to look like the lost weekend thanks to Mother Nature. Friday's weather was just about as perfect as a fall day gets though, and Will's (WillyG) train arrived in Albany early in the afternoon and he had some free time to wander and enjoy the weather and the riverfront before I left work to pick him up. But our transportation plans for Saturday changed at least three times because of the rain and snow that was predicted. I was worried that Will might be making a trip up here for nothing but thankfully that wasn't the case! We ended up riding down with the owner of my LYS and two other ladies from the shop.

We made our way down early on Satuday morning and once inside the gates headed straight for building E to see how the QAL did in the competition. Nope, no ribbon for me, but that's okay. I still have one from the Altamont Fair! The piece that did win the blue ribbon, MMario's "Spanish Armada", has been on my "to do" list of lace projects, but after seeing the piece that won, has now moved to the top. It's GOREGEOUS!!!

MMario recapped most of the edible delights that were available, but he didn't mention the chicken pot pies! Will and I didn't have any breakfast that morning so our next stop after checking out the results of the knitting competitions was for food. These pies were fantastic! Hot, tasty, and oh so satisfying! It's no wonder people bring coolers and buy pies early to bring home!

I didn't buy as much yarn as I could have, but that's okay. Rhinebeck has really turned into just as much of a social event as it is a shopping expedition. We saw Mel and his partner Dave and did a bit of shopping at Red Maple Sportswear (those headbands came in SO handy, and look much better on me than any hat!) We also saw Jim (Knipper), MMario, QueerJoe, Thor, John (VTandPTguy), and so many more MWKers at the Spring Retreat planning meeting! Some of you I see every year and some I met for the first time this year. It was really an honor to be able to meet so many of the people behind the screen names and profile pictures!

The rest of the weekend was really just fantastic too. It was so great to meet Will and have him as a guest in our home for the weekend. I'm actullay surpised he didn't run away screaming once he met my house full of crazy dogs! We had such a great time in Rhinebeck on Saturday and on Sunday hanging out at the yarn shop knitting and chatting. I think both of us should apply for some sort of economic stimulus bailout after this weekend! He stayed until Monday morning when I dropped him off early (too early) at the bus station.

Anyway, here are a few pictures from the weekend. More will follow as I get to them.

Enjoy!

lol...I got to see you Thor, but you were being accosted by a HUGE line of yarn-buying knitters.

It didn't seem like a good time to give a hug and introduce myself.

I am so jealous, but am very happy you and Willie had such a great time and got to meet so many MWK'ers. Wish I could meet more of the guys here. Was hoping to to go to the Midwest Retreat, but don't think I am going to make it, oh well maybe next time.

Okay, now I am doubly - maybe triply - jealous about not being able to be there. Still, I can enjoy it secondhand from all the postings about it. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I have to admit that the last couple of years, I was growing tired of the growing crowds of rude people, but this year was totally different. Even though the crowds were about the same or worse, getting to see everyone was a complete delight.

Glad to have gotten the chance to chat some with Aaron and his houseguest.
