I figure it's about time for me to stop lurking and introduce myself since I've been a member here for about 6 months.
I took up a pair of knitting needles for the first time about this time last year. At the time I was just looking for a hobby to keep me busy during the dark Midwestern fall and winter evenings. But it's since become a more serious avocation.
With some help from friends at work and internet videos I learned most of the basics of casting on, knitting, purling and binding off. I managed to finish a couple of scarves and hats for my son and nieces and nephews as Xmas presents last year.
My husband doesn't usually wear sweaters and never wears knit hats or scarves. I felt bad that I hadn't made anything for him, so I foolishly asked him what he would like. Almost without blinking he said, "A blanket." So over the Spring and Summer I've been slowly working on Barbara Walker's Learn-to-Knit Afghan for him in three shades of blue. The gradual progression to more complicated techniques has taught me a lot. I've got 25 of the 63 squares done so far.
As an introduction to sweater knitting, I recently took a break from the L-t-K Afghan project to make a baby set for our newest niece who was born last week. It was fun working with lighter yarn for once.
Looking forward to being more active in what I've seen to be a great community of men knitters,
