bitten by mittens...

My inspiration is all over the place right now. Its driving me nuts!

I want to make some of those mittens with the pointy tips. Norwegian mittens I believe they are called.

I need plain but simple here. Stress on the simple...and the plain!

Please help? Ravelry is the cause most are too complicated for me.

Elizabeth Zimmermann also

Elizabeth Zimmermann also has a very simple Norwegian mitten pattern in Knitter's Almanac. [A whole fistful of mitten patterns, actually.] If you don't care to do patternwork, they are easily knit in plain colors. Have fun. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Look at this book, they had it at my local library and it has a lot of great information. It was very interesting and inspirational just to look through the book. I have not tried it yet, but on my to do list. There are some simple basic patterns, to pretty complex ones. I think that it was a fine sock / fingering weight yarn that was required.

Have to get the two sweaters for me finished, before I cast on a new project. I have heard the mittens are as addictive as socks (which I also need to try)

I'm assuming you mean the Selbuvotter type mittens. I would LOVE to make some of these but they look really complicated. (read: I'm not confident enough in my knitting to try this yet) I would think that Chipsir's idea would work. Don't forget to share pictures!

Kerry, try www.garn studio .com, if you can't find plain ones just leave the stranding pattern out and knit them plain, maybe go down in size if knitting them plain.

This works - it is how I got my friend to start knitting mittens with great success.

Thank you very much. I will

Thank you very much. I will look there right away.

I have all this yarn and I think I am getting ahead of my skill level sometimes. Lace was way too much pattern for me. I like to keep things more simple. Hopefully mittens wont be another discarded project.
