Christmas Comes Earlier and Earlier Every Year

ksmarguy's picture

I wanted to take a moment and show off the Christmas Stocking that Vsidart made for me. He brought it when he came to Kansas a couple of weeks ago and I thought it looked FANTASTIC! He made himself one out of the same colors but in a different patterning. He would not bring that, he said that I had to wait until December when I brought mine back to CA to hang side by side since we are going to be spending this next Christmas together. My camera skills and photoshop skills are not nearly good enough to show the details, the reddish color on the pix appears much less pink in reality. All of the colors are beautiful and work so well together. The wool was Cascade 220 that was purchased in Henderson, NV when we went there together last April.

I'm totally in awe of the beautiful workmanship that was put into knitting the Christmas stocking. The colour choices compliment each other wonderfully, and the design is captivating.

Very nice socks. Looking forward to the photo of them side by side. Ann Budd's book is good. But, socks really aren't that hard, Jonathan. Once you learn a basic heel and toe, you can have lots of fun. Then, you get to explore all the other types of heels, toes, cast ons, cast offs, etc.! -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I feel so stupid when I see

I feel so stupid when I see things like this, I can't knit anything beyond a simple scarf or shawl....

Jason used to always laugh at my knitting, but then again, he was so good he could laugh at anyone, anyway, if you ever care to explain how to turn a heel, I might attempt knitting a sock too.

Jason... it's a skill, like any other... it takes time and practice and patience. I started knitting 9 years ago, and am always learning, and honing my skills... and we all different forté's... I love knitting socks too. Just hang in there, start with the simple stuff, do it well and keep pushing yourself. I knit scarves for years before I even knew hot to purl... no worries!

Once again, I've gotta

Once again, I've gotta recommend the Ann Budd "Handy book of Patterns...." Her method for turning the heel, as well as her directions, are almost foolproof. And that's coming from the fool's mouth!

That's great!! Do you

That's great!! Do you happen to know what the pattern is or did he make it up? We don't have Christmas stockings and I think it's an awesome idea. I've worked with the Cascade 220 and really liked it. We're about to go to Iceland and I might look for a pattern there or just maybe incorporate something into the sock pattern. Beautiful job!!

The pattern on the shaft is

The pattern on the shaft is based on "a Fair Isle Christmas" by Lisa Carnahan , then I did some improv on it. The sock pattern itself is from "The Knitter's Handy Book of Patterns" by Ann Budd. I've not been happy with most stocking patterns, so I just use her pattern for socks, and make it a little jumbo sized- cast on 60 stitches, and then follow her steps. Really surprisingly easy!
