Finally announcing the news...

Joe-in Wyoming's picture

I mentioned this to Dave (our man in Turkey) several weeks ago, but am finally putting it out for public consumption. (Or however those advertising people put it.) -- Anyhow, with a bit of modest pride, I'm pleased to say that I have a sock pattern accepted from the recent Knitter's "Think Outside the Sox" contest for publication in the book related to the competition. I'm unsure when the book will be published but do know that editing and photography are in early stages. I am mainly excited for the recognition by my peers and hope that people find the pattern to their liking. If you want to look at the socks, go to Think Outside the Sox.com and click onto the KniTalk link to the photo gallery. From there, click onto the "entries" link (bottom of the page). My winning pair is #228 (Dark Blue Basketweave) but #227 is the other pair I entered as well. I look forward to any comments. Take Care - Joe

The sox are amazing. What's

The sox are amazing.

What's even more amazing is that when you mentioned it to Our Man In Turkey, he kept it quiet.

Now, if memory serves me, Dave manages to make almost every, uh, hmmmnn..., well...intimate detail of his life....shall we say....TRANSPARENT?

How he kept mum on this is the real story, dontcha think?

I can't reply for Dave, of course, except to say that I asked him not to say anything until I felt comfortable with posting the news myself. So, I guess the best thing to say is that he did okay with this tidbit. -- Thanks for your second comment on the quality of my sox. I do appreciate it very much. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I just wonder what judging criteria levels all the wonderful, beautiful design entered to the winners. Wow, there sure is some great talent there!

True. They range from wild

True. They range from wild to mundane. I am unsure if the respected judges also picked the patterns for the resulting book or not. [I never thought to ask that in the e-mail concerning my desire to put out a press release to our local newspaper.] Anyhow, I imagine that my socks fall in the more "traditional" category. But that's okay by me. Most people get freaked by the fact that I design and knit my own socks to begin with. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Well done Joe... That gives

Well done Joe...
That gives a lot of credos to the lessons you are giving ... I hope your students appreciate that they are learning from the cream of the crop of sock knitters...

Thanks too for your help with my first pair of socks... I will be back home in Oz in 2 weeks... my dad will have the warmest little tootsies while walking around that golf course, teeing off icicles, while his mates are shivering in their boots.

Keep up the good work... mind the wrists don't suffer too much, be kind to them, don't overwork yourself.
