Baby Surprise Jacket Edge Question

Buck Strong's picture

I can't believe that this jacket is almost done. I only have three rows left. Anyway, I'm not particularly fond of the rough look to the edges, especially around the neck. Is there some nice, easy, type of edging out there that you guys could recommend? I watched a video on I-Cords and that just looks like a huge pain.

Thanks

Buck

I'll have to keep this in mind. Don't always care to use crochet. Thanks. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Oh, I-cord is incredibly easy. Boring in fact! They don't call it "idiot cord" for nothing, you know.

I've gotta say, I had always shied away from i-cord too. But after about a half dozen false starts, the i-cord thing finally clicked, and I was able to throw out 26+ feet of it in 4 nights. It's really quite easy and quick once you get the hang of it, and it looks great...

I recently just picked up around the neck, knitted a few rounds and then bound off and sewn that edge down to the inside of the neck of a sweater... it seemed to work...

I always add a row of single crochet to anything that needs to be "neated" up. Consider contrast color if that would be cool. Also this can keep a "funny" cast on from tending to roll. It just looks like a better c/o, that's about it. Very unobtrusive. Careful not to make it too tight or too loose to distort the edge. Just a light, even hand, nice and calm. You can do it!

I found that just the binding off left a good looking edge around the neck. But I added a hood to mine, finishing it with a slightly larger I-cord tube so I could run the drawstring through. That means my memory of it may not be reliable. Perhaps a simple row of crochet? Best of luck. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
