finished a gicft for my aunt's 80th bday. it's hand dyed silk on size 8s and came out to about 48 inches in diameter form a little over 1100 yds of lace weight silk
Certainly a beautiful shawl. Your aunt will love it. Great knitting.
It's glorious, Steve!!! Love it, love it, love it. Your Aunt is one lucky lady.
thanks. how are things?
I'm going to sit down and rearrange my "to do" list and put this one at the top.
Props to Mmario for such a fun pattern, and a gorgeous one at that. The only reason mine is incomplete is because I had other projects that had due dates, and now I'm taking a break on a nice and easy pair of socks.
? ! ? You don't find the neverending bind-off fun and relaxing? I am shocked!
I mean...it's just not as fun as all of the cleverly placed yo's and such.
I am ashamed to admit it but I have just cast this on and am around row 35 and I am so excited the other thirty odd projects are tossed to one side even the two designing projects have taken a back seat. I am using Malabrigo lace weight, colourway is Seafoam. Hope mine turns out as nicely as yours.
You are having the same reaction a lot of people have to QAL. I have to admit I don't understand it, but it certainly gives me a boost in the ego.
That does look nice. What kinds of yarn do you look for when considering doing a shawl like that?
lace weight worked for me. i liked the colorway, but i may try a solid color next time to make the design pop more
Fiber content can have a big impact also; Cotton, Wool, Alpaca all have a lot more "stretch" in them then does silk, and that affects the blocking.
Spectacular work and a beautiful colorway. Are you ready to begin another one soon?
i will soon, but it's not next in the queue. next is a shark hat :)
It looks great! I'm working on my first right now. Not a difficult pattern, but definitely one you have to pay attention to. Not a project for knitting circle night or watching television. I started over once. I'm hoping that I'll get past that point to where you can fix mistakes. But then my mistake was caused by not paying attention to my pattern.
Lace really is one of the amazing parts of knitting. I love how this pattern just blooms into existence as you work on it.
i actually couldn't even see the bloom until i took it off the circulars. a lot of trust is involved in the process.
It's really beautiful and I love the colorway!
Absolutely gorgeous, I'm sure your aunt will treasure it and you.
Steve, that is beautiful! Great job.
Wow Steve! That's marvelous! You're amazing...
A gorgeous shawl and one very lucky, much loved aunt. I hope she enjoys it as much as we've enjoyed admiring it. - Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
I love that shawl, and I wish that I didn't keep messing up the one I am making. I have frogged it so many times for so many different reasons. Of course, now I really want to make the PI-neapple strudel too... whatever shall I do?
Aagian though, just fantastic shawl! Kudos!!
i cn relate. can't tell you how hard the first 30 or so rows was. after then, you can fix mistakes
Sumptuous- like full-bloom dahlia!
Hoping to one day do that pattern. Yours looks fantastic.
Beautiful shawl and a gorgeous colour.
thank you all
What a beautiful shawl, you've done a great job. Love the colours.
It's BEAUTIFUL! I'm so anxious to start working on mine.

if i admit that I am extremely jealous of your talent and kind of want to scratch your eyes out right now....would you hold it against me??
It is absolutely gorgeous!! BRAVO
i would always hold you against me :)
Still like the colours. Hope your Aunt loves it.
