New Stuff of Interest?!

No, I'm not selling anything. I am, however, a compulsive shopper where knitting is concerned (and shoes, and clothes, and cds . . . ). I came across a couple of new things that I thought might be of interest, if you didn't already know about them.

I was looking for dog sweater pattern books on Amazon.com and ran into "Men Who Knit & The Dogs Who Love Them : 30 Great-Looking Designs for Man & His Best Friend" by Annie Modesitt and Drew Emborsky (Hardcover - Jan 28, 2007). No, it's not yet available, but it looks like something you might want to keep an eye out for if you have dogs for whom you like to knit. I have 3 schnauzers, so I'm anxious to see what this book has to offer.

Another book I found (also not yet published) was "Knitting With Balls : The First Contemporary Guide To Knitting For The Modern Male" by Michael Del Vecchio (Paperback - Oct 16, 2006). Books dedicated to men who knit, or even just patterns for men's sweaters and such are so rare that, frankly, I'll probably buy it no matter what (that's right . . . if one of you ingenious guys wants to put the time and energy into writing a book, you can count on at least one purchaser!).

I truly wonder sometimes if I really love knitting or if I just love needles and gadgets. This morning I was on Knitpicks.com and saw that they have a new line of needles. They are called, "Options." They are circular needles much like Addi Turbos (nickel plated hollow brass tips) but have interchangable cables. If you're an Addi Turbo fan like me, you end up spending a fortune getting needles in different sizes and different lengths. Storage of them (actually, organizing the storage of them) is a real pain. Knitpicks is offering a starter set for only $60. That inlcudes needle tips in sizes 4-11, cables in 24" and 32" and a nice looking (even somewhat masculine!) carrying case! I'm ordering them. I'll happily report back with a review.

Thanks for the information

Thanks for the information about the books.  I've pre-ordered a copy of "Men Who Knit & etc." but I didn't know about the book "Knitting With Balls".  I, too, like to support all positive efforts to encourage men to knit.  I just pre-ordered a copy from Amazon.com.

Please keep us informed about the Options needles.  I'm a dedicated user of the Addi Turbos but would like a more compact set for when I travel internationally and have to use several sizes.  I'm keen to know if they are of the same high quality as the Addi's.

Friends don't let friends knit drunk.

There's also a DVD due out

There's also a DVD due out any day from Wendy Eidson called Real Men Knit that will come with a yarn from Philospher's Wool and needles to make a simple roll-brim hat.  I know she also interviewed several of the guys here.
