So who's doing the challenge?

daveballarat's picture

Well I've started the challenge, did some pushups and some situps.
Who else is doing it?
Are we meant to be submitting pre and post pics?
My first set of exercises were done in Melbourne, yesterday, today I am in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ... in transit, maybe I can do some in the waiting area :) ... not likely... tomorrow I'll get back into it, in Istanbul, Turkey ...
A little more interesting than just doing them in my bedroom, one set in the southern hemisphere, the next near the equator, and then on to the northern hemisphere...

I'm hoping there are quite a few guys doing this challenge, it makes it easier motivationally if you know that there are others going through the same pain.

Anyone else doing it?

Oh I agree 100% ... they

Oh I agree 100% ... they keep an eye on me that I do the right thing... I have special place... their own pet 'yabanji' pet foreigner ... which has its advantages... and they sometimes lift their shirts and invite me to inspect their abs or feel their biceps... yes they are my motivators too :) .... my gym is a small impoverished local gym with ancient equipment, in a small local fishing village... so the boys tend to be very ... traditional and homophobic. As in most of them won't change in the changing rooms, they'll go home and do it, or go into a shower cubicle to change... but then again... so would i if my willy was as small as the average over here. THey know their willies are small. But they have hair and muscle to make up for it ....
I just try to make sure that my tongue isn't collecting dust off the floor... I concentrate hard on not being that obvious :)

I laughed outloud at that

I laughed outloud at that one... Here, I just go right ahead and stare. I work out at the college gym here, so most everyone is college-aged and ripped, and bulging everywhere...it's great. And there's an olympic type pool there too, so sometimes I'm lucky enough to be working out during a swim meet or diving meet...mmm!

I get a little frustrated at

I get a little frustrated at the gym. Yes because there are lots of great bodies around... but that gives me an endless supply of fantasy material to sleep soundly at night but the other reason I get frustrated is that I am building lots of athletic muscle but no bulk. I'd like a little bulk. To my teaching colleagues they think I have a fantastic body, but to my gym buddies, I need to work on my chest and shoulders.

It is a great way also to get work stress out of my system.

I've been a real skinny guy

I've been a real skinny guy with hardly an muscle for a long time... even when I worked out. This time, I'm starting my working out habit again, and I'm drinking a soy protein shake thingy once a day...it's the first time that I've actually seen results. My arms are actually growing a little!

For years the guys at the

For years the guys at the gym have been taking chemicals, to strip the fat off, to bulk up ... soy protein and whey are natural products but like the chemicals I think that really if you stop using them, then you tend to go back the way you were. It's like dieting. Do a fancy diet that rids your body of fat or water for a while, then when you stop, it all comes back. The answer is a good balanced diet. Make sure you are eating whole foods, not too much fat (fat is necessary for the body too) and let your body do the rest.

I have been a little disappointed that my weight hasn't dropped but I have come to realise that it is because the fat is being replaced by muscle. I do tons of exercise, so the fat is being utilised, I am doing a power/volume gym routine 3 times a week, walking/running the dog 4 km/day, pushups and crunches, cycling -hill climbs 3 times a week...and the sex... well... must be losing a bit few calories there:)

more exercise & less fatty foods with complex sugars = weight loss

regular strenuous exercise + quality food with lots of protein and starch = muscle development

It seems to me like you've got the healthy living down. With all that cardio, the only way you aren't losing weight is by gaining muscle... and apparently it's working if you're losing as many calories as I am with the sex... good ab work out I must say. But really, I'm trying to work up the force to go workout today after all my classes.

Too angry to sleep last

Too angry to sleep last night. Not even knitting calmed me down. I think my blood pressure went through the roof. So I did what I never do which is called in sick.
Actually last night I didn't sleep well for another reason, my sinuses were giving me hell. I couldn't sleep.
Today I have been eating soup and watching DVDs, at the same time doing a bit of knitting. Knitting to Bach was enjoyable but I had 2 dvds that I had to watch so that I could get them back to the bus driver.
So just did a rib while watching ... I'm making my dog a little jumper/sweater because it is going to get cold next week. I've been working on it a few weeks now... just can't stick at it for more than 15 minutes.

I like the thought that sex develops the abs. I'm not sure but ... I'm willing to work with the theory and see if it holds. The evidence collected this past weekend(3sum + single +single) and the previous weekend(3sum+ 3sum+ single) proved inconclusive. I'll have to get next weekend lined up and see how I go...:) am hot to trot at the moment.

I'm happy with my routine

I'm happy with my routine ... but not happy with my girly pushups style. I've managed to increase the number of pushups from 10 to 30 consecutively but I am still only doing the kneeling down version. I saw a guy at the gym the other night do 20 full pushups balancing on one foot. Mind you, this guy ...though short...even by Turkish standards, he was built... his manboobs... uhhhh ... and his tattoos.... and just his figure is stunning.... wow... and then there are my little girly pushups... the crunches are going fine. I am concentrating on my abs as I cycle the hills... difficult but ....if my abs get stronger then they will be easier to work, then they will really develop... but patience is the name of the game.
Got confirmation from a friend that I have no belly... now to put some abs on and start to push a little harder on the pushups.

Challenge going ok. I've

Challenge going ok. I've managed to sustain my routine of gym 3x per week, cycling 3 x per weekdaveballarat and pushup&crunches 3 x per week. Feeling pretty fit and strong.

Friday there was a cake sale...OMG, I bought so much... so much chocolate cake. It was delicious... but not good for the waistline... actually the waistline not really a problem. When I came back from Australia I felt a slight bit of movement on my stomach that hadn't been there for 6 months... well I have burnt that off. The scales at the gym don't reflect that though... I've only lost 1 kg in a week, however, I have changed my gym routine from last year, this year it is 'power and volume' ... sounds like my sexlife... Friday, Saturday and Sunday last weekend, and this weekend is the same... for the gym it means more muscles all over (chest and shoulders) ... so maybe I'm not losing weight because I am putting on muscle... vain hope ... but will know after a month.

I've started a diary to record the weekly fitness. After 2 weeks it is looking pretty good. I'm thinking of doing a photoshoot of myself ... to get my body shape now and then in 2months... to see if any, there is some sort of comparison to make.

Well the birthday has come and gone ... so too the hangovers I suspect, so for your 22nd year resolution... increase the gorgeous body, decrease the harsh treatment you give it :)

i have been struggling against winter holiday weight and it's going very slowly. back to swimming, some weights (so boring for me right now) and my naked yoga once a week (shocking but necessary reality check to keep on track and motivated as long as it doesn't tip into demoralizing)

I managed to make it to the gym both Thurs and today... feels great. I had a headache before I went, but I went anyway, and let the endorphins kick in to get rid of the headache and it worked! For the first time ever, I am finally getting some muscles on my arms! It's about damn time.

Ouch ! Been there ... but the stupid person was me... I'd rested a dumbell on a bench and it fell on my foot. It'll heal quickly ... just have to be patient.

My dog bites have almost healed. I was being intimate with someone Sunday night who said that the big bite was a little off-putting ... but still we had great fun :) ... so it couldn't have been too off-putting.

Happy birthday... I've missed it by a few days... not been too good online lately...

How has your challenge been generally? My gym work has got going again, so am happy. The pushups and crunches are going well. I'm writing all the fitness stuff down... so I can see how it is going and to encourage myself.
Take care,

Well, the challenge has been going, just barely. The 3 day weekend, and the hangovers from turning 21 have been a set back... At the very least, I've been consistently going to the gym 1-2 times a week, and biking to class about 3 times a week.
So apparently your challenge has been going well if you were being intimate with someone Sun night...jk... :-)

How's everyone doing with the challenge?

After having a week off due to dog attack, I'm back into the pushups and crunches and cycling and gym and running the dog. No problem with stitches ... the doctors couldn't give them cos risk of rabbies infection... so just have to be careful where the joins are forming... slowly does it.

Well it's the first week back so no noticeable difference ...well...got a nice comment online the other day... I don't consider myself muscle yet... but someone thought otherwise... quite the compliment :) I think I am on course for my Easter look. ripped with muscle... a big ask but I've been working at it a while and have the motivation so... should be right :)

Finally...finally back in

Finally...finally back in the challenge.
On Saturday I cycled in to the city from home... and met up with a good friend for a bit of fun then back on the bike and back home ... 36km in icy weather ... only wearing cycling shirt but long cycling leggings... it was soooo cold. Sunday I had a rest. Yesterday I went to the gym and cycled to and from work. Today I'm doing the push ups and crunches... done the first 30 of each this morning. I'm still in shock at how weak my upper body is. 10 pushups &crunches, then again and again. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll be a little stronger. And that is when I am doing the girly pushups... scary.
I hope everyone else is doing well with challenge.
we'll all be looking pretty buff soon ... so we can go in the buff for the MWK calendar :)

Bugger bugger bugger ... no

Bugger bugger bugger ... no running, no cycling ... I'm going to go to the gym tonight... upper body workout, not been to gym in a few weeks due to Christmas - New Year... got to get rid of the 4kg I put on. Cycling can't do... will stretch the wounds, running will stretch the wounds too.
At work I flashed my arse around in a new way... the women's reaction in the staff room was interesting... we got some horny married women who obviously not getting enough... they were shocked but their eyes were still bulging and they took sneaky looks at my bulge :) Well I had a nasty bite on my arse... so they get a moon :), and a bite on my thigh, so their eyes showed that they had trouble staying focused on task and other thoughts going through their minds.
Healing well after 2 injections and antibiotics... 3 more injections...thank goodness they don't do it into the stomach any more. Mind you, I did this whole thing same time last year ... same dog even... and same reaction from the owner ... well you shouldn't have had a small dog ... and you shouldn't have picked it up... MAYBE HE WANTED ME TO STAND BACK AND WATCH MY DOG BE SAVAGED TO DEATH... WHAT SORT OF MORBID CHARACTER IS HE?..

Well at least it won't stop me from knitting... maybe the walking jacket for my dog needs to have pouches sewn into it containing cyanide... for the next time he's attacked... 'cos now the score is me twice and him once.

No good sitting on this sorry arse... going to the gym... to get the rabbies infection circulating... ahhhh... no... no infection, had injections last year, last time, and currently getting injected... so ... pumping fresh blood to wounds to heal more rapidly :)

Sit ups and push ups ... oh ... later ... maybe after the patting of my arse by others and their comments ... oooh ... ahhh .... have stopped....

I hate it when large dog

I hate it when large dog owners don't control their dog. I have an 11 pound chihuahua/black lab and he got attacked once by a dog 10 times his size...the people were downtown eating without their dog on a leash...idiots...obviously there are going to be several dogs walking by.
It's definitely awesome that you are still going to the gym though. I went yesterday...def sore today. Wounds healing properly so far?

My challenge has hit a snag... has a setback... was maulled by a dog this evening...bitten 4 different locations... so missed gym session... too busy going to hospital for rabbies injections... need stitches but ... due to being a dog bite ... they need to be able to see into wounds to ensure no infections... the comfort was 'íf the dog not dead with in a week or missing... then you can stop treatment'... as in stop receiving injections.
My arms are going to be so sore from needles, there won't be any way I will be able to do push ups : (

Maybe next week wounds healed enough to get back on to programme. : )

Finally back home in

Finally back home in Istanbul ... it's freezing here!
I'm going to be doing the challenge to keep warm... and to get rid of the 4 kg I put on while back home over Christmas.
There seems to be a lot of people interested in the challenge : ) there have certainly been a lot of reads... so that's good.
I'm thinking that this first week back at work is going to be the toughest for me for this challenge. I've got to somehow insert the challenge into my daily routine... once I get a pattern going I should be right. I can't believe how week my arms and shoulders are ... gently gently I suppose...
I'm wanting abs and shoulders by summer(northern hemisphere) ... should be plenty of time... just need to get it into my daily routine. That's the biggest challenge for me. If it doesn't slip in like clockwork and I'm always having to find time for it... it will be doomed to failure... so must plan it carefully. :)
Best of luck everyone for this week.
