Ok so I am going to pony up and learn how to knit. I am nervous and intimidated but determined. HELP! I need someone to hold my hand!

I actually took my first

I actually took my first knitting lesson just 14 months ago from the local park district. I was a little nervous about being a guy in a knitting class but the instructor and classmates could not have been more supportive... until the second class when the women were blown away by how much I had accomplished and I made them look bad!!! Want more one-on-one support?? Do an internet search for knitting guilds in your area... perhaps the Parks & Recreation Department or public library offers instruction. Your local yarn shops are always a great way to learn and to hook up with other knitters of all walks of life. JUMP IN! Be fearless... it's only yarn!

Wow! I didn't know that! You are a "stealth newbie!" Makes me even more impressed by some of the work you've done.

Thanks for the support

Thanks for the support everyone. I bought two knitting books...Knitting for Dummies and Visually knitting (or something like that) they are helpful but I do wish I knew some guy in Boston who I could learn from. But, I will see what happens. I have a pair of #8 bamboo needles and some worsted wool. Seems like as good a place to start as any. Although with so many choices to cast on I am a bit befuddled before I even begin.

Welcome. Just get your

Welcome. Just get your needles (no smaller than #8's) and some regular yarn and get those needles clicking. Just remember to be patient with yourself since you're learning something totally new to you. You'll get frustrated at some point - we all do. So remember that and cast on. If you don't have someone nearby to help you, the online videos are great tools. Come on in, the water's fine.

Hi guy. Do you have a plan?

Hi guy. Do you have a plan? I bought Knitting for Dummies, a pair of size 8 needles and a few skeins of Cascade 220. That was about 3 years ago, and now I'm knitting lace and cabled sweaters.

I hope all goes well. Remember, all the guys around here are eager to help. Just ask away.
