Extermiknit!

ZachM's picture

I JUST finished this and figured it'd make for a good first post on Men Who Knit.

I found the pattern to be pretty challenging, particularly at first, when there were something like 120 stitches to use. I chose to use double-pointed needles, figuring that they'd be similar to circular knitting needles. I'd have to say that were I to do this again, I'd try to use the circular knitting needles for the majority, probably until I got to the very top part (the head). I wound up with a little stretching where the needles broke off but nothing that time won't heal (hopefully).

Anyway, the pattern was spelled out pretty easily and, what with youtube, I was able to learn quite a bit from this pattern! I'd suggest it for anyone who loves Doctor Who and wants to stretch themselves a little bit.

The final Dalek ended up about a foot or so tall and uber-cute!

Thanks so much for posting

Thanks so much for posting this, and the link to the pattern. It's just amazing, particularly as Dr Who was one of the best TV shows when I was a kid, and the Daleks were, without question, the best (worst?) of the Doctor's enemies.

I printed out the pattern

I printed out the pattern ages ago but I have yet to attempt it. I might just do it after the holidays when I'm not under pressure to complete something.

Ah! What a wonderful Darlek.

Ah! What a wonderful Darlek. For those who might be interested. Dr Who and Torchwood is filmed here in my home city of Cardiff. In fact on three separate occasions we have had to divert our path to avoid coming into camera shot.
The Tardis looks a little odd stood in front of you; all on its tod with out camera crew or actors running round it.
At first it used to elicit "Oohs and Arrs. There’s the Tardis" now it sometimes gets "Bloody filming! How am I supposed to avoid it with out having to walk back under that bridge and having an extra ten-minute walk? I'm going to be late getting where I'm going now!"
Still doesn't stop masses of people having their photos taken standing on the stone that descends into the HUB of Torchwood next to the silver water sculpture that stands in Roald Dahl Plass.
I personally am quite chuffed when I spot the BBC filming. I love the fact that DR Who helps put Cardiff on the world map.

I love that you use the word

I love that you use the word "chuffed". Mind if I adopt it into my own vernacular?

It would be worth being late

It would be worth being late for work if I could run into John Barrowman.

Jonathan in DC.

Is it just here, or is it a bit quiet in other places across the US on election day?

Think less, enjoy it more.

You can find the pattern here: http://www.entropyhouse.com/penwiper/who/extermaknit.html

I changed the colors a lot, and I think I wound up reversing the pattern for the bottom, but it's pretty simple to follow!
