Joukahainen

Elemmaciltur's picture

Start: 5th September 2008
Finish: 20th October 2008
Needles: 4.5 mm / 100 cm Addi Turbos
Yarn: Cascade 220, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool; colour 8886, dye lot 7414
Pattern: Joukahainen by Kristel Nyberg. Published in Finnish in the magazine Ulla 03/07. Pattern is available as an English translation as Ravelry download.
Modification: I shortened the body a bit because I don't like jerseys that hang down too low.

I can't begin to describe how much I LOVE this jersey now (give or take the collar which rides up in the front and is a bit tight). I've never worn this colour before....and I have to admit that I'm digging it.

I showed the pictures to Dr. D and he actually made a compliment that it looks great. ;-) Now, that's the best compliment I can ever get, eh?

I will certainly knit more Joukahainen in the future, since it's such a classic wear...but right now I'm in a sweater knitting fever. ;-)

Here are some more photos of me in my Joukahainen!

Oh wow...When I was young(er) and skinny (This would be in the 1980's) I wore a fisherman's sweater (slightly looser fit) but EXACTLY like that in a fashion show at the Galleria in Milwaukee (I think) for Chess King...except of course the one I wore was nasty cheap acrylic, and not glorious wool. I remember loving the sweater and wishing I had a sweater just like it (but I think I bought the blue version instead). You did a beautiful job... You knit that by hand? It's so incredibly even...My frame knitting looks like that, but my hand knitting looks a little more, um...how to put it nicely, "earthy".

I bought the same yarn for an EZ sweater that I finished and frogged because it didn't fit me at all. Yours is superb and beautifully done. It gave me inspiration to tackle a similar project which this time, I hope, will fit. Thanks for sharing and all those great pictures. You model well, also.
