I am currently in the process of designing my first pattern. I will attempt to create a Pi Shawl loosely based on a shawl I saw on carolknit's Cobweb Pi. I fell in love the explosion of design and thought "If I could design something one tenth as good as her's I would count myself lucky.
I headed over to my local library and picked up Barbara Walker's "A Treasury of Knitting Patterns - Vol. 1" (the only book of her's available) and charted several promising patterns. I then started tweaking the charts to add my personal touches. I am still testing and tweaking and swatching and waiting. Just a few days ago I ordered the yarn I plan to use, knitpick's Gloss Lace Yarn in Aegean.
So what do I do with all my spare knitting time and yarn? I thought if I plan to make a round shawl I should get a head start and try an established pattern not based on the shawl I plan to design. I came across the "Doily B" pattern and what you see is the current results of my labors. I do not know what the end results of my work, I will play this one by ear and hope for the best.
Until next time...
