Shawls, Shrugs, and Wraps

rightOn's picture

Hey everybody, I am thinking about trying a shawl or something like it. So far all I have done is dishcloths, socks and a coffee cozy. Any advice on where to seek out a good "beginner" pattern for a shawl. I have yet to really research the topic, that is next (now?). I just wanted to check in with you guys first. I have seen some really nice stuff coming out of here. Thanks in advance for any help!

Just a suggestion, YMMV,

Just a suggestion, YMMV, but it looks like you have done mostly smaller items so far. I would suggest you choose a triangular shawl started at the base tip and knitted up to the long end. If you get bored with it, you can always stop after it is "kerchief-sized" and knit an I-cord length that binds off the long edge and makes ties. (I knit one of these for my Daughter for Pascha this past spring.) A kerchief like this is also a good way to use up some sockweight yarn you may have sitting left over from other projects. I love knitting shawls, they are never the wrong size!!!!
