Finally Finished My First Sweater

MasonM's picture

It took me a while, just knitting a little here and there in truck stops, taverns, and honky tonks, but I finally finished it last night.

I think it turned out ok for a first attempt. At least it fits LOL

It looks great - love

It looks great - love raglans - and what a beautiful shade of blue! The fit seems to be perfect, both comfortable and flattering. This doesn't look like a first sweater to me - can't tell you how eager I am to see your second sweater. (My own first sweaters mercifully disappeared - with some help - years ago.)

Congratulations MMason. I have been wondering how you were getting on with this. You have done a great job and you have raised the bar for yourself. Looking forward to seeing the cables, colourwork, lace, etc.

Once you get the handle of

Once you get the handle of it cables are so easy. Do a swatch to get idea of what to do and when you get comfortable you can start a project. I love cables, they don't look like much and then all of a sudden they start to take form and you think did I really do that? IMHO the secret of a cabled project is in the color of the yarn you pick, I think lighter colors show off the cables better than darker colors. Good luck.

Yeah I enjoy doing cable

Yeah I enjoy doing cable work, I think they really add some flair to a simple project. I've done several cable projects and find myself wanting to put cables in everything LOL

Thanks. Being a trucker

Thanks. Being a trucker those are the sorts of places I get the time for knitting. I'm big enough and ugly enough that folks don't bother me LOL

The other night one dude in a country bar told me I looked like I should be rebuilding the carb on a pan head, not knitting a sweater LOL I told him I can do that too.

It's fantastic - well done, you! I really like the colour and it looks very comfy. I've never done a neck-down jumper so you're one-up on me. What pattern and knitting wools did you use? Certainly, you can wear that with pride! As I've told you before, it's been fun to accompany you on MWK from your first scarf to this fab jumper.

BTW: I like your new photo.

Knit like the wind!

Thanks, I really enjoyed

Thanks, I really enjoyed knitting it.

I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes yarn, the colorway is Sapphire Heather. No pattern, I just calculated the initial stitches using percentages and went from there, adjusting as needed for fit and ease.
