Finally, starting Faux Spanish Lace Shawl

I've finally decided NOT to use very fine black yarn on teeny needles for my first attempt at the Faux Spanish Lace Shawl (just not enough light -- MMario, I'm taking your advice seriously!) to create a mantilla. At least not this time.

So, my first challenge was what yarn to use. I got six hanks of E. Lavold's Silky Wool in a gorgeous red color at the LYS in Hillsborough, NC. Second challenge was excavating (I kid you not!) a path to the swift and yarn winder (only took an hour). Third challenge was untangling the first hank from the swift (without fail, one hank in every batch of the Silky Wool will not cooperate!) Fourth challenge was going to be finding my 40-inch Addi Turbo lace circular needle, size 5, but that was solved as I found it in a knitting bag I cleaned out during the aforementioned excavation. Also found a spare row counter (I must have a dozen in use with UFO's that are hiding somewhere in my apartment -- I'm sure this never happens to anyone else).

So, now I've gotten through the pattern rows once. The next challenge will be remembering to put in a life line from time to time. The final challenge will be learning to use a digital camera so I can post a picture of the FO.
