Summer Knitting Course

I just registered for a week course at the "Haliburton School of the Arts". Its a school affiliated with a community college in one of the cottage/summer areas of Ontario. A pretty village where they have been running this arts school for some years now. I went for a couple of weeks 2 years ago where I did a weaving and a colour knitting course. Anyway, I registered for a week in July with Fiona Ellis. Some of you may know her, she has written several books, including one on Cable knitting and one on Fair Isle. I think she also writes for Vogue Knitting and Interweave Knits, lives in Toronto. Here is the course discription for the one I am taking. It sounds good to me. ..........

Knitters’ Sampler
COURSE CODE ARTS1071 SECTION 41
INSTRUCTOR Fiona Ellis
DATES July 7 – 11, 2008
FEE $252.70
Please note: This course is not suitable for beginners. Instruction is
suitable for intermediate to advanced skill levels. You must be able
to knit and purl with ease.
Other needlework disciplines create samplers to practice the
necessary skills and improve understanding of the techniques
being worked. This course provides this valuable opportunity for
knitters. Instruction will enable you to ‘read’ your work and will
cover not only the basic techniques but also how each achieves
their end result. You will be guided through a worksheet for each
technique and then encouraged to make modifications or devise
similar patterns of your own. You will produce valuable reference
samples and the beginnings of an heirloom blanket, while no
longer blindly following instructions without understanding

Excellent description of the course. That's the way knitting should be, I feel. I think you will learn a lot. There will be a lot of work as well, but what esle have you to do there anyway??

When done, you will have an extremely valuable resource, as they say. We would like a report when you come back.
