Face Lift

Darrel's picture

As you may have already noticed, the default site theme has changed. This was done both because of the comments based on the BlueMarine theme and in anticipation of an upcoming site upgrade and changes involving the way themes will be handled.

I and others like the user pictures apprearing in posts and comments as they do in BlueMarine. The new theme has those, a cleaner layout, and loads faster than previous themes.

The other themes will go away soon, but will remain available via your account preferences for a little while longer.

If you experience any issues with the new theme or miss something present in other themes, please let me know and I'll do my best to address those issues.

As always, positive feedback is encouraged!

Ssssssh, the facelift is working on my mac and I'm using Firefox.

I get a kick out of seeing my work displayed on the random image. Nice feature Darrel.

Yay! I'm glad you like the random image block. I think it's a great way to show off what folks have done.

For my next feat in CSS hacking, I'm working on getting certain text input areas and the members list from overflowing in to the right column.

Hi Darrel,  My first

Hi Darrel,  My first impression of the new look was very good although I haven't had a real chance yet to look it over.  Since the change, the site won't let me log in or log out.  I was able to log in now by searching Google and clicking on the cached page link and loggin in from their old version.  My computer usually handles Java well, so I don't think that's the issue.  When I go to the main page, it seems to fully load, but it never gets to the actual "done" stage. Then, when I log out, the same thing happens.  I'm using IE 6.0/IBM.  If you have any advice, I'd really appreciate it. I'm afraid that when Google updates their cached copy, I'll be doomed. Cry

It's an IE thing... it has some issues with adhering to CSS specs and while the current theme has loads of IE fixes, apparently it just wasn't enough.

I'm going to switch the default theme back to Chameleon and work on the new theme when it doesn't affect my boys :)

A jewel you are, to be sure!  All's well now. I hope it wasn't too much trouble, and I look forward to the new look when the time comes. Thanks, Charles Kiss

No trouble at all :) The "default" theme is still selectable for you Safari / Firefox users under your user preferences. Feel free to choose it, use the site, and let me know if you experience any problems.

Darrel,

I'm using IE and, although I love the look of the site, everything that used to be on the left is now at the bottom of the page on the left.  So, I have to scroll all the way to the end of the post in order to logon.  Any setting in IE that can fix that?

 Thanks

Argh... and on IE Mac, it's the right sidebar that ends up at the bottom of the screen. This should be fun :)

I'll try to work on it tonight. I'm helping a friend paint his house today, but in the meantime you can also switch back to the previous theme, Chameleon, via your Account prefs.

Hey Tom, While Darrel is

Hey Tom, While Darrel is working on the official fix, here's what worked for me.  I went to My Account and on the Edit Tab you will find check boxes for Block Configuration.  Uncheck the box for Related Sites and see if that fixes the problem.  If not, try unchecking all of them.  For me it was only Related Sites causing the issue.

disabling rich text

disabling rich text helped... it allowed me to delete a bit of text that I never posted...and has stayed in the comment box for months! that should make life easier! thanks, Darryl!
