That's right boys, I'm no longer fighting and giving up. If you don't hear from me for awhile send help! I cast on my first pair of socks today. I'll take pics of the mess when I have enough to bother with. Wish me luck, I love ya guys!
Can't say we didn't try to warn you. See you in rehab! Once you get through withdrawals, you'll find the 12-step programs really inspirational.
LOL. My plan for this weekend is to cast on a "practice" sock. Just bought a couple of addi Turbo circs (#5 and #6) in 40 inch length, this morning. Yes, I'm going for the Magic Loop. Bill (WJBDineen) gave me "The Magic Loop" booklet for Christmas. Plus I'm going for toe up AND Magic Cast On. I decided that if I was going to be adventurous then I was going all the way with it.
I love my addi Turbos, but I am usually on a size US1 or 2 for a sock weight yarn.
I can do magic loop, but prefer 2 circs - when I'm pulling the cable back through the stitches setting up for the next half-round on the loop, the needle end makes an attempt to poke my eyes out flailing around on that springy cable, so it makes me a little more concerned when doing it than when I'm on 2-circs where that doesn't seem to happen.
My plan is to do winter woolen socks with worsted weight yarn (that's what my pattern calls for).
Since I wear glasses while knitting, I have less fear of the needles going after my eyes.
BWAH HA HA HAH HA!!!! We've converted yet another one! Toaster ovens all around!
Just keep saying...Socks are fun....Socks are fun....Socks are fun....
As the stitches fall off your too slippery needles, as you forget where you are in the pattern, as multiple dpns flop all over the place, as you try to figure out wtf a gusset is, as you work with small yarn and tiny needles...
Oh, did I forget...Socks are fun!!!
Actually, I do love knitting socks, though they can be a bit of a challenge. I like how you have to keep changing techniques as you create the various sections of the sock. I usually don't get too bored while knitting socks, as opposed to some other patterns which get mindless pretty fast.
Anyway, good luck...
The really ARE fun!!
and to think, it almost sounds like you're trying to talk me out of it! so far, I'm not having a good time, but I'm not giving up yet!

YEE-YAWW!!! My dear woman, you have beat me to the insanity and I bid thee well! I promised myself January was "LEARN SOCKS" month here... hasn't happened yet. I did get "Socks Sail..." by Cat Bordhi and Paul (PaxKnitter) teased me today by showing me a copy of "New Pathways..." also by Ms. Bordhi... The stars are aligning... I just need to CAST ON!
Congradulations on your FEARLESSNESS (or rather, moving forward courageously in the face of the insanity!)
Your overnight compatriot!
January isn't even half over; besides - did you say *which* January?
