Next Major Project... advice?

So, after I finish the 'fetching' cabled fingerless gloves from Knitty.com's archives, I'm planning on making this project. I have two roommates, though, and while those gloves are perfect for one of them, I'd like to make something similar for the other. She's a hardcore gamer (Vampire, and I think D&D as well) and videogamer... WoW, mostly, and the Nintendo lineup, starting with the 8-bit classics. Anybody have any ideas on what I can do for her gloves? It would have to be similar in style to the Queen of Heart gloves... four motifs, background and foreground colors reversed between the two gloves.

I'm leaning more towards 8-bit... Mario and Zelda have been done to death, but would something from say Metroid... I'm thinking Samus on one, and the little spikey turtles on the other... show up alright on stranded knitting, or would they just look blobby? This project will be my second experience with intarsia, so I'm a little worried.

I'm really not sure.... my experience is more with following established patterns rather than trying to create my own. My guess is that you could make simplified but recognizable versions of some of the critters, but Samus herself would be a bit difficult. Maybe a closeup of her helmet would work, though.

8 bit classics provide for

8 bit classics provide for easy access to all sorts of motifs. Just get some screenshots from the game, grab some graph paper, and start charting pixel by pixel. Stranded knitting stitches are very close to the same height as width, so if it looks good on graph paper it will probably look decent on the knitting.

For WoW, there are icons to represent the factions, races, and classes. I am not looking at them right now, but I think they might be a bit too "high res" to get into the space needed on those mitts. You might be able to simplify them and get an approximation, though.

Nothing jumps out at me in terms of pen and paper gaming... I'm not really familiar with Vampire the Masquerade, though. There may be icons for the different vampire houses that you could use.
