Test swatch for Nepali cap

purlyman's picture

So I'm trying to copy as much as I can the pattern of a skull cap type hat I got in Nepal back in the early 90s. I have two of them and they're both machine knitted with cotton yarn and they must've been done on the equivalent of size 2 needles. So I got some cotton yarn from my LYS, I think the label is Stork and the company is Dalegarn (URL is www.dale.no so I'm guessing it's Norwegian). I've done a little test swatch as I'm planning on trying out stranding and I did it on size 2 (2.75mm) needles. I'm wondering if I need to go down to size 1s or even lower? The test swatch doesn't look as tightly knit as the hat beside it. I'm pretty excited about this and I'm glad I'll be doing it in the round. Purling the WS and stranding at the same time is a real pain.

I would do a swatch in a size smaller needle and see how you like it.

I'm going to look at some size 1 or 0 needles today. I don't have any of those unfortunately. Thanks.

The 2.75mm needles look to have given you a nice tight fabric. You could always do your swatch on 2.5mm and see how they compare.
