Treasure From the Local Library

Knitfoo's picture

This past weekend, I made a trip to our local library to try and find some knitting resources. To my surprise, I found a great little "gem" amongst the collection. The Manly Art of Knitting by Dave Foungner is a 64 page books. that gives a brief history of knitting, basic stitch instructions and projects. He has some unique projects, like using a garden hose to create circular needles to knit a horse blanket, or using two shovel handles to knit a hammock out or yellow rope.

You have got to love the cover shot, I guess this is what cowboys do while watching the over the flock.

What a treasure! Never

What a treasure! Never thought I'd consider being a cowboy if I should want to change jobs, but evidently it's an option! Asplund

This is a great little

This is a great little booklet. I posted about it on MWK almost a year ago. It seems to keep making its presence felt here - a part of men knitters' history that doesn't want to be ignored!

There's a couple of used copies for sale on Amazon. $75 and $99 respectively. Bit too steep for me!

I've seen someone in a humor

I've seen someone in a humor video knitting a hammock using cut and sharpened pool cues.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to find that book and give it a read.
