Yarn Recommendations

machinarex's picture

I'm a big fan of Schaeffer Yarns...you know, the self striping ones that are frequently in jewel tones, and are all named after various famous women (Indira Ghandi, Dian Fossey, Frida, etc)

What I'm looking for is something of a similiar quality in the same color ranges, but that doesn't stripe as quickly...something that only has 2 or 3 colors that fade gradually into one another.

Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

I don't know what the Schaeffer yarn feels like nor do I know what the yarn shown in the above link feels like, but it looks like the "landscape" line might give you the effect you describe.

Almost! Looking for

Almost! Looking for something even slower striping, if I can find it. I'm not quite sure how it would be dyed, to be honest. (as in the technical parts)

When you only get to a shop

When you only get to a shop once every six months or so ( my "local" shop is 65 miles away) you don't usually special order. But I will be popping in there more often during the xmas season since I'll be staying in that town over the weekends....hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Trust me, I hear you on that one! I live in the sticks as well myself, though I heard we may now have a yarn shop about 45 minutes from here...yay!

Schaeffer yarns - whose

Schaeffer yarns - whose facility is just across a couple lakes from me and whose laceweight is on my "must own" list of yarns I have not yet bought?

Why not contact them to see if they would PRODUCE some....?

I think a lot of people would like to see longer colour runs.

First...get yourself some of

First...get yourself some of their yarns! They're quite easily my favorite "brand" of yarn. How can you not love a company that names a yarn after Diane Fossey??? Their stuff is just so....rich.

Second...good idea!

Did you ask them to special order the colorway and yarn size that you wanted?
