Haven't Been Here In A While

MasonM's picture

Just popping in. I haven't been on here in a while. I've been dealing with an episode of depression and just haven't felt much like knitting or anything else for that matter.

I got myself back on meds which was something of a bummer as I'd been off them for 5 years. But if ya need em ya need em.

I just started knitting again a couple of days ago. I'm currently working on a knitted clock as a gift for my mother. After that I'm hoping to finish the cotton socks I started a while back and have pretty much ignored for a while.

Glad to see you back. I have

Glad to see you back. I have to deal with depression among other things and have found that it helps to have a knitting emergency kit of sorts, with a simple pattern, say a hat or scarf, the yarn required, and the needles needed, assembled and put aside somewhere, because when I get into a real low mood I don't even have the energy to pick out patterns or choose and swatch up yarn, but if I did all that before hand, then i just go and get my emergency knitting bag and start the project and just the plain fact that I'm knitting usually helps me out.

Thanks. Sounds like you have

Thanks. Sounds like you have a plan. For me I just didn't have any interest in knitting or anything else.

Welcome back.

If you need a shoulder to punch/cry on/clutch/vent on/shake, etc. feel free to rattle my cage. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt, etc.

Glad you're crawling outta that hole and sniffing the sunshine, guy. It's great.

Many hugs from one who's been there.

Thanks Mike. I've been

Thanks Mike. I've been dealing with the depression thing for many years. I inherited it from my father. It killed him when he was 10 years younger than I am now.

That's why I went to the doc and got a script for meds as soon as I recognized what was going on.

Believe it or not trying to quit smoking is what triggered it this time. Dumb huh? The doc said to take the meds, Wellbutrin, for two weeks before trying to quit again. He wants to get the depression under some sort of control before I stress myself again by trying to quit a 30+ year addiction.
