I can't stop

A friend who is in "Recovery" recently went through some AA stuff with me replacing yarn for alcohol. I am here to testify, with all due respect to those in recovery, that I am a knitaholic:

Answer YES or NO to the following questions.

1 - Have you ever decided to stop knitting for a week or so, but only lasted for a couple of days? (~Yep)

2 - Do you wish people would mind their own business about your Knitting stop telling you what to do? (~Yep....just ask FuzzyJay: I snapped at him in chorus practice for interrupting my knitting.)

3 - Have you ever switched from one kind of yarn to another in the hope that this would keep you from knitting so much? (~ I thought knitting in cotton or acrylic would slow me down. It did, but not enough, not enough.)

4 - Have you had to have an eye-opener upon awakening during the past year? (I have a hat-in-progress on my beside table)

5 -Do you need to knit to get started, or to stay awake, pay attention? This is a pretty sure sign that you are not knitting "socially." (I knit in chorus rehearsal, church, traffic jams)

6 - Do you envy people who can knit without getting into trouble? (I got in trouble for knitting while singing in chorus rehearsal).

6 - Have you had problems connected with knitting during the past year? (I buy too much yarn...)

7 - Has your knitting caused trouble at home? (My living room looks like a yarn store exploded. I recently put up a sign for myself that says: YARN IS NOT ALLOWED IN KITCHEN!)

8 - Do you ever try to get "extra" knitting time at social events because you do not get enough. (I don't leave home without a "hat in progress"...in case I need to knit)

9 - Do you tell yourself you can stop knitting any time you want to, even though you keep knitting/buying yarn when you don't mean to? (Oh, yeah... Bob loves a yarn sale.)

10 - Have you missed days of work or school because of knitting?
Many of us admit now that we "called in sick" lots of times when the truth was that we were just knitting. (DON'T EVEN ASK....it's a bitch being self employed and setting up your own shedule. My only saving grace is that I can sell my knitting).

11 - Do you have "blackouts"?
A "blackout" is when we have been knitting hours or days which we cannot remember. (I find hats around the house and I don't remember knitting them, even though they are out of my yarn. I also don't remember to whom I've given hats, scarves, socks, etc....)

12 - Have you ever felt that your life would be better if you did not KNIT? NEVER!!!!!!

13 - Do you hide knitting around the house or office? Does being without safety yarn make you anxious or uncomfortable? (I have yarn/project in the work truck AT ALL TIMES: I don't leave home without it....)

Did you answer YES four or more times? If so, you are probably in trouble with KNITTING....

~~~~~oh dear........
guess I fall into the catagory of a knitaholic too, with having answered yes to more than 4. Can't leave home without a pip (project in progress), and to reply to question number 13...hmmmm...hide???...nope...they are strategically placed.
Hope your friend is doing well. I've had friends who've gone through the same, and witnessed just how difficult it is.
I love the term "Pip". I
I love the term "Pip". I used to take care of a rather fabulous American Saddlebred Show Horse who`s nickname was Pip. Very cool. Project in progress. "Pip" good deal.
My 2cents, and I'm paying....
Hmmm, well, I guess I
Hmmm, well, I guess I qualify, too. As addictions go, though, it's at least relatively less destructive (except for the frogging part). And you get something to wear out of it.
