This is my very first project! There are some holes here and there and some saggy edges, but I've had fun working on it and hope I improve with the next project.

Good on you - keep on knitting! You're off to a great start!

My knitting is totally tubular!

Welcome and let's fix those saggy edges.

Knit (or purl) the first stitch of the row then on the second stitch insert your needle into the stitch as to knit (or purl) and give the yarn a good tug then complete the stitch. That will give you a pretty good looking edge.

Again welcome,

Chris

Thanks for the tip about the saggy edges. I'm tempted to unravel it and re-knit it to see if it turns out any better.

Now, if someone could only help me get rid of some of my other sags!

And do not forget some of the un-eveness will self-adjust as the yarn relaxes after knitting; or after you wash it; or wear it. A knit fabric is more "active" then "passive" - it adjusts itself.

it gets a lot easier - just take it slow; one stitch at a time, and try to pay attention to what you're doing while you're working through a row (take "breaks" at the ends of rows, not "during" the row) - and you'll get the hang of it a lot quicker! It looks like you're doing a great job though - congrats!

Thank you all for the

Thank you all for the encouragement. I have slowed down a bit to pay attention to the form and mechanics of the stitches, and I'm ready for a break at the end of each row! I may have this scarf finished for next winter!

And Stephen who cares if you

And Stephen who cares if you take till next winter to complete it?

I have sweater I have been 'working' on (yeh, right Chris) that is just about old enough to vote!

Maybe some day it will move out and get a home of it's own.

Okay, this is funny because it's true. For ALL of us! Though my sweater that I've been "working on" isn't anywhere near old enough to vote!

Looking at your work you can

Looking at your work you can see the stitches are more consistantly even at the new end- so I think you are getting the hang of it. Welcome aboard knitter!

I've started this one

I've started this one several times. I'm now to the point where I no longer care about the mistakes and just want it finished so I can start something new. Good luckk on your scarf. They're actually a lot of fun.
