A vacation of knitting

Well, I'm back from vacation, and boy are my knitting needles tired! While gone, I did 1/2 of my hemp scarf for my soon-to-be-deployed friend, ripped up my alpaca scarf for my MIL, started and finished a scarf for my mom, and got my niece hooked on knitting. I also received an order from elann.com yarn, bought from a knit shop near my mom's place in Eugene, and learned to think about more than just "I want natural fibers" when picking out yarn. But to top it all off, I now have orders from people for scarves, Christmas present projects, and a lot of work ahead of me. How fun!

I just got 10 skeins of "Shim

I just got 10 skeins of "Shimmer" from knitpicks.com. I brokered a deal with a friend in NY: she'd buy me "a gathering of lace" and the yarn, and I would knit her a shawl from the book.

Haven't worked with the yarn yet but it looks good. 70% alpaca and 30% silk, $4.99 a skein.

Very surprisingly inexpensive for that kinda yarn... I do hear not-so-great things about knitpicks though... like appropreating other people's free patterns and reselling them... very tacky behaviour... and I hear from those in the now that they're not really knitters and don't understand the intricacies of the craft...

I'll let y'all know how the yarn is to work with.

Sum Ergo Knit ~ I am, therefore I knit.

I was concerned about my orde

I was concerned about my order, as I was going on vacation. So I had them send the order to my destination. Didn't need to, as they sent it priority mail & I would've had it in plenty of time for my trip, a matter of less than a week. As far as the quality, visually the yarn looks splendid, and I can't wait to get started with it.

Thanks for your good wishes for my friend. He's currently doing his annual training before getting sent to a base in Texas prior to deployment. I haven't heard from him in two weeks, and I think I'll call his wife tonight. I'll share your thoughts.

Remember... still looking for more people to knit up scarves or helmet liners for the troops.

How fast was elann.com at get

How fast was elann.com at getting the order to you? Have your or anyone else purchased yarn from KnitPicks.com? I'm curious about their quality because their prices sure are cheap and they've got a good variety of stuff.

Wish your soon-to-be-deployed friend a safe return from all the other Men Who Knit!
