Debbie Bliss Teddy Bears

kiwiknitter's picture

I decided to knit something totally different this time and I bought the Debbie Bliss book on teddy bears and clothing for them. I have always admired the knitted toys done by other MWK members and a teddy was challenging for me. However, I cannot get the proper gauge/tension required by the pattern. I spent 2 days making swatches, trying all sorts of needle sizes but had absolutely no luck and I'm not talking about a 1 stitch variance here. Has anyone had experience with the patterns in this book? I've given up and put the book away in exasperation.

as far as knitted toys goes,

as far as knitted toys goes, i usually just use a needle size that is recommended on the yarn lable and don't worry about guage according to the pattern. i never have any problems...

I have done some of the bears out of that book several years ago. In fact, the one in the night shirt and cap was the first present I ever gave my partner, Scott.

Frankly, I didn't worry about the gauge at all and they came out fine.

I haven't used this pattern

I haven't used this pattern book but my experience with teddy bear patterns is that the gauge is not really critical for making up the bear. Not sure the same can be said about the pattern for the clothes.
