Kieran Foley's knit/lab Colorwork Crescent

RickMartin's picture

My latest shawl was Kieran Foley's Colorwork Crescent shawl. One of the other people knitting it christened one of the intarsia sections in it, "tanglarsia fairends." And I have to admit having never done any intarsia or fair isle I'm not really sure why I attempted this shawl that had sections of intarsia - but the intarsia sections instead of having solid blocks had intarsia knitting in those blocks!!! I think the shawl turned out quite well considering my learning as I went.

I've done a couple of his

I've done a couple of his shawls that were lace and they've been easy in comparison. This was the first of his that were of the "colorwork" variety instead of lace. Since I've not done nearly as much colorwork I did struggle a lot more (but also learned a lot too).

I have Bosphorus and another

I have Bosphorus and another color work combo - for the initiated, Mr. Foley has combined stranded knitting, intarsia and openwork, often with color-changing yarns and frightfully elegant use of these colors. I say frightfully because once you are committed, as they say, the roller coaster ride is all scary slow to the top and straight down to the finish...sheer fun!

That is gorgeous sir!!!!!!

That is gorgeous sir!!!!!! You are far braver than I!!! I haven't as yet attempted intarsia or fair isle. I'm a coward. I'm still trying to conquer knitted lace.

You might try any of Mmario's

You might try any of Mmario's lace designs. Not only are they most generally fairly intuitive - he's always quick to offer help of all kinds if you get stuck! I've done several of his as blankets and shawls and the Queen Anne's Lace one seems to be one most people are drawn too if you need a suggestion.
