HAT AND SOCKS

colamanknits's picture

Here's the hat I finished tonight. Just washed it and now it's blocking. Since I don't have a dummy head to block it on, I thought that the balloon would do the trick.

The socks, of course, are blocking on sock blockers. These will also be for my friend, Mark. They were finished a couple of nights ago, but have been waiting to finish the hat before I washed and blocked both projects.

You are sooo ingenious! I

You are sooo ingenious! I love the balloon idea..BUT, here' where I show my ignorance. I didn't know that I should block the socks I made. There's so much I just don't know.

Thanks, Terry. You don't have

Thanks, Terry. You don't have to block your socks, but I would recommend it. It gives the stitches definition and "sets" them in place. Blocking is your friend, lol. :-)

What IS that hat yarn? ...I

What IS that hat yarn?
...I *LOVE* the colours in it....

I like the colors in the hat

I like the colors in the hat too, Bill. Unfortunately, the yarn came in a bag with other yarn that was given to me and this did not have a label on it. I wish I could tell you what brand and colorway it is, but I can't. Sorry.

Thanks, Mark. You won't

Thanks, Mark. You won't regret trying the pattern. It will always be your go to pattern for socks. You can always add a pattern to it (if you don't always want stockinette) as long as it's divisible by four. There is a way to get around this that I'll explain to you at some point when you're ready.

I'll take you up on the offer

I'll take you up on the offer of help when I need it. I have vowed not to start a new project until my sweater is finished. We'll see how long that lasts. I got several hanks/skeins of sock yarn for Christmas and from friends, and I can hear them beckoning to me as I pass by them.

Calvin, I love the balloon

Calvin,
I love the balloon for a hat form! Brilliant! Both the hat and the socks turned out very well. Your work is so evenly done. I am anxious to try the pattern you sent me and the modifications as well.
