Birthday Surprise

CLABBERS's picture

Well, I turned 60 today. Thankfully, I don't feel a day over 59! ;)
My wife and son always find fun things with which to festoon me. Two sizes of sock blockers, three skeins of yarn, a nice knitting book, and my favorite chocolates from the folks at Godiva. They are always so generous.

Best Wishes to you on this

Best Wishes to you on this very special day! And now to look forward to the next decade, and what new adventures there are in store for you!

It looks like you will be knitting a lot of socks in the future! Now you have no excuse not to do them anymore. You have all you need right there -- what a lucky guy -- and even chocolate for when you are stressed, and for when you are successful. (chocolates reward and console at the same time)

That book looks fantastic, and those blockers are the best! I need to drop a few hints to my family and friends... they just don't understand!

Looking for some socks made of that yarn any day now....

Thank you. I have been knitting socks now for several months now and have overcome some of the issues that I had as a rookie knitter. I am anxious to try a few of the designs in the book. I'll be posting the newest basic socks probably tomorrow or the next day. They are in a heavy worsted wool/acrylic blend so they knit up quickly. It took me many, many tries to get used to sock yarn, but now I thoroughly enjoy the feel of it. It is rather like knitting with gossamer...at least to me. I know there is even thinner fiber, but I don't think I'll ever really get into lace knitting, so this will is the lightest I will probably go.

Thanks Joe,
At the next retreat you and I attend together, I want to sit with you and knit some socks together. I know you have helped others and I would love having you as my mentor.

Sitting together can be fun

Sitting together can be fun but don't forget that I do long-distance mentoring, too. I've had several private messages and/or emails that needed answers to work through some tricky spots. I can't always say that my descriptions are easy to understand but I eventually get the point across. LOL

I will take you up on the long-distance mentoring, I'm sure. I watched you help David at the retreat and you explained things well. You are an excellent mentor.

Enjoy your 50s. I did as well. My body tried attacking me at 58, but a very talented surgeon foiled an arthritic hip and now all is well. Titanium is much preferred over one that is incapacitated.

Thanks, guys. For me it's a pretty big milestone. Tuning 60 and retiring at the end of this current school year. It's scary and exciting at the same time.
