New circ needles

TinkerJones's picture

I got an email today from NordicMart announcing their new Drops Pro nickel-plated circular needles. (NordicMart is the American distributor of Drops products.) I haven't tried the needles -- they look like Addi Turbo knockoffs. Great prices beginning under $5 per set... plus they sent me a coupon code that lowers it to under $4. nordicmart.com

The needles may be great, but I think the cable is what looks very cheap. There are stiff cables and then cables that break over time. The thing about addis is that they are guaranteed for life. Addis with the blue cable are the ones guaranteed by the USA distributor, the other ones you are out of luck

That's great to know, Andy. I wasn't aware that Skacel backed them up like that. Thanks for mentioning it!

yeah the cable is always the big question mark. I'll check these out in person the next time I'm in SLO. At least I will be able to see how flexible they are, but expected lifespan is a crapshoot.

Hmmm.... I'm going to have to check this out. 60-inch Addi turbos are the only needles I buy anymore. (I use magic loop and a 60 inch circular will pretty much cover anything from the finger of a glove to a pullover. And they're great for sock patterns that are written for either 4 or 5 dpn's, as you can pull out as many "magic" loops as you need to with a 60-inch circular.) The things I like about Addis are the nickel-plating and the smooth joins. If I can get a 60-inch nickel-plated circular with a good join for five bucks, I believe I will take one of every size they've got!

I enjoy the Addi Clicks and their circular needles that aren't adjustable. They have a nice smooth feel to them.

I just bought Addi Turbo US2

I just bought Addi Turbo US2 circulars that are 40" and they were $13.50 at a LYS. What are their shipping prices like?

Mark, I've never ordered

Mark,
I've never ordered from them online since I am able to visit their store in person. The website says they have a flat rate of $6.59 for all orders large and small. I guess that brings them closer to Addi prices if you only order one.

Inox used to make a nickel-plated needle and I used to use them exclusively until I found I couldn't buy them anymore. They last a long time (mine are over 15 years old) and I like how the wool slides over the nickel. Have you bought other products from Drops?

I've bought lots of yarn and

I've bought lots of yarn and a few needles from them. Drops is a big brand in Europe. I think they aim for the market between the LYS and large chain store like JoAnn's. The quality may not equal what you can get at a LYS but it's much better than the chain store... and the prices are very good.
Shipping to Mexico might be a bit steep :P
