FO: Welsh Tea Cozy

michaelpthompson's picture

I made a tea cozy for my mom for Mother's Day. It's not quite what I intended, but I think she'll like it.

I had originally intended to do the Welsh Dragon in red as duplicate stitch, but with the loom, there just aren't that many stitches, so the chart was way too big and reducing it would have lost a lot of the detail. The idea was to represent the Welsh Flag, which is white over green with a red dragon. I put a red pom-pom on top instead. Hope it's not too easily mistaken for the colors of the Italian flag instead.

It's beautiful! I'd love it as a hat (or head cozy, whichever you prefer) : )

It would be a lot easier to do as a hat, wouldn't have to leave holes for the handle and spout. Well, unless you're planning on wearing it REALLY low. :)

I did find something interesting though, which an experienced loomer such as you might shed some light on. Normally, when I loom a hat, it comes looking kind of like a ribbed stocking stitch. On this one, the bottom and the top look like that, but since I had to go back and forth to leave the holes, the stitches look different in the middle. I guess it makes sense, since I did my eWraps in the opposite direction when coming back. If I don't do that, the stitches get way too tight and I can't pull them over the pegs.

I definitely connected the Welsh flag to the colors...you matched them up quite well.

Thanks Joe. I thought the colors did match very well. It's a Lion Brand super bulky yarn. Looked all through a big JoAnn store trying to find those colors.

Now I'm making a "trivet" for her to set the teapot on, this time with the dragon. Because that yarn is so big and the dragon chart requires 28 rows by 48 stitches, it's more the size of a placemat. Not sure what to call it, but I'm hoping the dragon works out better this time.

Since it will be placemat

Since it will be placemat sixed, it will be great to set her teapot, cup and saucer, and cookie plate onto. looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

It's cute, I like it.
