Well, I survived my first foray to the Stitches West convention in Santa Clara this weekend. Went down there on Amtrak's Capitol Corridor since I thought CalTrain was still upgrading rails on weekends. A nice ride down with plenty of knitting time.
I don't think I've ever been around so many women in one place before... Stitches was just crawling with the fairer sex... spotted the odd long suffering husband or boyfriend carrying bags of yarn trailing behind their gals or waiting in line at the cash registers while their significant other foraged for yarn.
Quite the selection of yarn and knitting related stuff... swifts, ballwinders, spinning wheels... it was quite the education in yarn.
Handed out some Men Who Knit flyers and even sold a few Men Who Knit buttons, one of them is headed to Australia no less...
Got a number of very nice comments on the buttons and logo and on men who knit from the ladies there. Lots of encouragement and comradery from the gals.
Saw a great demo on knitting with beads by Swallow Hill Creations. Can't wait to try, but will have to learn English style knitting for it.
Ran into an old friend from art school (California College of Arts and Crafts) I hadn't seen in a decade. She'd been doing the hippy chic-gypsy thing for a bit and had lived in New Mexico working for a yarn store dying yarns.
Anyone else got some yarns to tell from Stitches?
