Thank you to all who replied here and so many via email! It really helps to hear from all of you guys. My son and I are the only two in the family who live here in IL, so it's great to have this site as an extended family.

My wife pulled through the 4-hour surgery just fine. She was awake, alert, and eating Italian ice and Popsicle last night. Today she had two full meals and was moved to a chair, which meant some leg bending and some light standing...that went well with all the pain meds and nerve blocks in place. The tough part will come when the femoral nerve blocks are removed. Rehab is always a case of adding insults to injury, but we are thinking of it as positive pain. Her spirits are very good.

Again, thanks for all the kind words of encouragement and prayers. You are all great brothers!

Funny how life works - I have

Funny how life works - I have a friend that had the same surgery the same day; but I suspect I will hear more progress and details on your wife's then on his...

But it will also give me information to interprete his most likely terse and pithy comments.

It's always good to have a comparison point. My wife is being moved to the rehab center for a few weeks. She is very excited as she walked about 20 feet using a walker without people holding her up. She was giddy...well, as giddy as one can be with two knees ripped apart and metal shoved inside. Having just had the hip surgery a few months ago, I can get giddy right along with her as she progresses one baby step at a time. Wish your friend well for me.

glad to hear it went well

you are already prepared for rehab, so i don't need to remind you that that is a pain you just have to push through. my rule of thumb with rehab is that whatever they tell you to do, to triple it. the best therapists lead you to do all the right things, but you do need to take charge of your own rehab.

best of luck!

Hi Demetri, I know what you

Hi Demetri,
I know what you mean about rehab. I was an impatient one so I always did more than I needed to do and forced myself through the pain. My wife will be the same. We have requested the same therapist that I had, so we know she is a good one! Thanks for the advice.

Thanks, Bill. I think it will

Thanks, Bill. I think it will be much harder for her than me. She will be transferred to a rehab facility either Thursday or Friday where she will work with an amazing therapist. I think she will have the same one I had back in November when I stayed there. She will be in that facility for probably at least 3 weeks unless she makes remarkable progress. So, for me, it will just be a case of being lonely, especially evenings. That's not hard to cope with. I have some projects that I want to do anyway, so this is a good time to get to them. Thanks for your continued support. :)
