Survey on Ravelry

Joe-in Wyoming's picture

I just found a survey about "Gender and Knitting" over at the "Needlework News and Events" forum on Ravelry. It's only aimed at American Ravelry users and the person conducting the research would really like input from men. I found it pretty easy to take and got it finished in less time than estimated by the surveyers. If you have a Ravelry account, I urge you to go over and complete it. [Totally anonymous, not that I cared whether my name was used or not.] It gives us a chance to - hopefully - give a better idea of how many guys are actually knitting in America. The more data, the better the research...as my teachers used to say.

Weird survey. I'm not sure

Weird survey. I'm not sure what they're really looking for. I don't waste much time wondering what other people think, so I probably can't supply the information they seek in that regard. Personally, I don't consider knitting to be a gender-specific activity, just a wonderful creative craft. Made it hard to supply much detail on some of those questions.

For my replies to the ones

For my replies to the ones about how I felt about other knitters, I put that I think it great we just have lots of new knitters and that I couldn't comment on gender since I didn't consider it a factor.

Done---and like others, I

Done---and like others, I would have liked more specific questions. Subjective questions are OK, but I am never sure how much to write or leave unsaid.

I'm afraid I wasn't too kind

I'm afraid I wasn't too kind about what I thought about women who knit - what an odd question.

My take on the questions were

My take on the questions were that they were written to be non- gender specific and generic. I had to rush my answers so they were stripped to the bare bones. Which was probably a good thing.

Joe, I think you're probably

Joe, I think you're probably right on the slant of the questions. I rushed through them also, for time's sake (at work!) and because I find my more honest answers are those that first come from my fingers, rather than those that I sit and ponder, and write and rewrite.

Thanks everyone for taking

Thanks everyone for taking part. Not that I have any vested interest in the survey...other than having men take part so it's more balanced reporting. And, I hope, encourage more men to take up the needles. I'm uncertain how long it will be active so the sooner the better. -- Thanks, Scott, for the link; saves having the lads going to Ravelry.

Done. Would have like more

Done.

Would have like more pointed questions, rather than just so many of the blank "write what you will" spaces... but, it will be interesting to see the results.

I'm on my way! OK, I'm back, it takes about 25 min to complete which is more time then I have at the moment but I will do it. I'm creating a link so that you can bypass Ravelry to get to the survey, hope it will work.
