Snap! Dang it...

Last night we were invited over to some friends house who live on Capitol Hill here in DC. We all had a grand time, and after the hot dogs and lemon bars and pound cake with blueberries and strawberries six of us were sitting around waiting to walk down to the Mall for the fireworks. I'm diligently knitting, working on Stephen West's Boneyard because I am so close to finishing I can taste it...when SNAP. I look down, and the Denise interchangeable needle I was using BROKE - the needle didn't come out of the attachment, but rather, the attachment part completely broke off the cord! I've never had that happen.

The funny this is, that I'm knitting in a room full of gay men, and right after I broke the needle off and am looking somewhat perplexed at a shawl that is almost completed and has now fallen off the needles, one of the men looks up and says "Wow, you really ARE a butch knitter!" Made me smile.

So now to find another size 8 circular needle in my collection and get the shawl back on some needles before it totally unravels...

WARNING: The Boneyard shawl

WARNING: The Boneyard shawl can be addictive! I'm now about to finish my fourth and fifth (see, I'm even knitting them two at a time!) --- different weights of yarn and needle sizes.

Wow, what a weird thing to

Wow, what a weird thing to have happen. I feel for you and will take it to heart to carry an extra needle [thanks for the tip, Bill] so as to never have to deal with that mess. Looking forward to seeing the finished shawl. p.s. - I don't know that anyone ever consders me a "butch knitter" but I don't worry about such things...I'm too busy knitting. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Hi Joe, Yeah, I dare say

Hi Joe,

Yeah, I dare say it's the ONLY time I've ever been accused of being a butch knitter - but I guess maybe breaking stuff makes you butch! :-)

LOL...Anybody can break

LOL...Anybody can break stuff. The butch part is being proud enough to knit in any type of public venue. :-) Especially since too many people still consider knitting a woman's pastime. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

What a shame! I'm sure you

What a shame! I'm sure you had several hours of knitting time left in the evening...
I haven't had that happen yet, but I try to carry an extra needle in each project bag, so I can at least pick up dropped stitches, when it does happen....
