Tabi Socks

Does anybody have any experience knitting those Japanese tabi socks that have a single cleft toe? Any recommendations on a good pattern?
Thanks,
Chris

I've knit gloves and socks

I've knit gloves and socks but have never tried tabi. The main thing, I guess, would be to allow enough ease to ensure a good fit but not so loose as to cause a friction point between the toes and the sandal strap. Lots of luck working out the logistics. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Funny you should ask, I was

Funny you should ask, I was just doing a search for them myself as a friend of mine Berkeley wants a pair to get her through the cold of summer there... I found this page that I liked:

I like it especially because instead of just a pattern, she gives instructions for calculating the split; this would allow you to adapt pretty much any cuff-down sock for it.

The only thing I *don't* like in this and some of the other patterns I've seen is the abrupt square end on the large side of the split. But that would be easy enough to do away with, with a few strategically-placed decreases. I'll be trying one soon and I'll post the results (on the condition that they are not butt-ugly). :D

Thanks bob. Looking forward
