Woot! MSKR 2011 is coming!

WillyG's picture

At long last, after a couple years of wishing, the Men's Knitting Retreat at Easton Mountain is just a few months away, and I'm planning on being there! I remember when I first found MWK, and it was like an oasis in the desert for me to connect with other guys who understand my crazy passion for knitting.

As I've developed more connections with men who knit online, I've been better able to embrace the company of the women in my local knitting groups. They're quite fun, and sometimes it's like having another mom- one who loves knitting as much as I do. But to chum around with the guys is always a dream of mine. I know some of you have much more exciting lives than I do, but for me, a good time would involve a lot of time, the guys, and yarn. Other stuff can be added or subtracted as desired. I've been fortunate to meet with a few guys here and there, and it's always been a source of fibery mojo.

I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of you up at Easton Mountain this May! You guys are like rock stars to me.

And there are currently 5 (five) open spots for the retreat (I just spoke with Easton to confirm).

The retreats always make me think of the supportive community here, except, live and in person. I couldn't think of a better way to spend a long weekend.

You guys are the best I know.

It is an experience you will

It is an experience you will never forget. It makes you long for more time to knit with new found friends. You'll learn a lot, but give yourself some down time. I am so glad I had the chance to experience it in September.

How do I find more about the men's knitting retreats? I'd love to go and commiserate with other men...and get some much-needed help on a few things.

Sadly, it's at a crucial time for me at work. I teach middle school and that is the time of the year when we are winding things down and there's so much to do to get ready for the next year. I remain hopeful that there will be a summer retreat soon here in the US. 'Thanks for the info though.

Oh how I'd love to get to that one in the Rockies! I hear it's being held at a brothel...

Not that the two statements are related.

Hate to pop the bubble, Willy, but it's at a cabin resort. [Unless, of course, the venue changed and I didn't hear about it.] I'm going to be there - Gods willing - if nothing comes up to change my plans. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

Oh, I was just being a bit tongue-in-cheek, haha. There was some conversation with Purlyman that I was thinking of...

Actually, last Spring I went

Actually, last Spring I went on a retreat with people from my LYS and a couple of the rooms were in the bordello area of the historic hotel we stayed at. We had to circle around the upper floor and go down a back staircase to get there. Tiny room but I didn't mind; we spent most of the time in the lobby and/or library knitting. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.
