Yarn Colours

Buck Strong's picture

I'm finding, as I progress through my knitting experience, that I'm not finding the colours that I like at my LYS(s) or, if I do find yarn that I like, they never have enough and it's expensive. It's driving my nuts. I'm really into kettle dyed in one colour group. I just love the way one colour flows from light to dark and back again. Anyway, I think it's time to take matters into my own hands. That's right, I'm going to start experimenting with dying my own yarns. But don't worry, I'll be f'ing up my own kitchen and not yours. The only problem now is that there isn't going to be enough time to do all of my fiber related projects. Sigh...

Nope, no respectable LYS.

Nope, no respectable LYS. Thats why I started dying in the first place. I do a whole bunch of pots in one day. Lots of time left to knit and do whatever.

Here's some of my stuff. http://www.flickr.com/photos/caprifool/sets/72157622429509623/ It realy isn't rocket science or anything. Just a whole lot of dipping behind steamy windows.

Hey Geoff,
At least you have a LYS. I haven't been to one in so long that I am having withdrawals. Good luck with the dyeing.

Buck,
Check out the beautiful acid dyes at Dharma...they now have their own line of dyes.
I love them! I'm using a vegetable steamer I got from Amazon.com to set the dye...works beautifully...

Why does everything in knitting seem to have a slippery slope?

LOL! That is why I refuse to

LOL! That is why I refuse to try to learn spinning. I have 2 obsessive fiber habits already, knitting and dyeing, don't need a 3rd. Although I was able to make a fair amount of money doing something I loved with dyeing. I actually paid off a credit card with the money I made on selling yarns.
