Backlashes are nasty

Gregory Patrick's picture

So, I'm leaving Savannah, heading out to my father's on Wilmington Island to avoid the nastiness that I've faced around town since the release of my book. I've had a priest stop me and say it was, "brutal. Why on earth would you be so cruel?" And another comment that the book was "gut wrenching, but I loved it." Not sure where I'll go next. Gonna lay by the pool for a day or two, count out my pennies, then decide what on earth to do next. My stuff is being put into storage, but I'm taking the table cloth that I'm working on with me. Gonna have to have some sort of zen now that I wait for people to throw tomatoes at me on the streets for calling them out. John Berendt, when he wrote "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," was cowardly and bolted back to New York once he called them out. He didn't have to stick around his home town and deal with friends becoming enemies and enemies suddenly becoming friends.
