Thanks for the Pattern input

Thanks for the Pattern input and stitch guide. I have now purchased a pattern and am planing to use the thermal stitch on it. I'll use the pattern to get an idea of where to increase and decrease. Thanks again. I will post a pic of these if they turn out nice. Maybe someone else will want to knit a pair.

Ronnie here is part of an answer. It's merely for a thermal knit stitch. As far as an entire garment I'm still looking.

Thanks for all the input on this. Long Handles are a term from the US Deep South it think (It's were im from) and it refers to thermal underwear. I got a great deal on 10 skeins of Alpaca wool for 99 cents on E-bay I bought 40 skeins. I burned a short piece to make sure it was real wool. Anyway it is sooooo soft and nice to the touch. The Headonist in me thought they would be great as thermals. I must confess as much as ive knitted in the past it has mostly been in Acrylics for myself. I have knitted in wool for other and for charity. I knit for the soldiers deploying here. (Ft Stewart GA) (Helmet Hats and scarves). They have to be 100% wool. I finally knitted a hat for myself in wool and couldnt believe how much warmer it was compared to Acrylic. Even Warmer when felted. So now I only knit in Wool. I am having a great time. It is much more expensive but I look on e-bay and have found some fantastic deals. OOOPS I didnt mean to write a book. Sorry Thanks again for all the response and I will post a picture when theyre finished. I use a Ultimate Sweater Machine for the boring parts so they shouldnt take that long. I just finished a King size spread for my bed in 12 days. Couldnt believe it. I would have taken me a year by hand.

I am looking forward to

I am looking forward to seeing this! It sounds like a real go-getter project. I have a computerized knitting machine that I have yet to unpack since our move into the new house last summer. I barely know how to use. It has all the bells and whistles and can do so much more than I can imagine. Perhaps once the tax season is done I will have the motivation. But I need to finish the hand stuff first.

Elizabeth Zimmermann has a

Elizabeth Zimmermann has a pattern for "nethergarments" in 'The Knitter's Almanac' that would be a good starting spot. Combining it with the Boxer Shorts pattern would be a way to accomplish the long underwear suitable for a man. [You may have to make them a bit snugger for the proper fit but it shouldn't be too tricky.] Then you could either knit a snug long sleeve sweater for the top or do a combination Union suit where the top and bottom are all one piece. Then you could do a button up from the abdomen or lower to facilitate putting them on. Lots of luck. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

LOL my mother has a pair like the ones on the right that she got when we lived in England in the 70s; knit in a lace pattern. I root around and see if I can find them and post a pic.

This is an early 1900's Patons pattern from the UK, and one of the first knitted garments I ever made (the shorter version...not the longer).

I even modified the pattern slightly and put it on my web blog:

These are also called union

These are also called union suits, one piece long johns with flap in back. I have seen people on Ravelry looking for a pattern also

I just did a google search

I just did a google search on long handle underwear, and I have to admit, I still don't understand what it is.

The one image that I kept seeing was a pair of jersey cotton boxer briefs with a one-button fly.

Just not sure what specifically makes them long handle underwear.

And honestly, they look very similar to the Skacel boxer pattern that the guys are doing as part of the Knit-A-Long (KAL).

More info please!
