I'm back... maybe

In about 5 months I have knit a total of 1 foot on a simple ribbed scarf, which translates to knitting about 10 rows once a week or less and months at a time where I haven't knit 1 stitch. Basically, my obsession with knitting has ended.

Or so I thought.

Well, I finally got the inspiration to make a hat for my boyfriend, Andrew (who crochets by the way), and I got started on it yesterday. I started the hat on dpns - my preferred method - and it has enough "stuff" in the pattern to keep me interested. Finally, I have found that feeling again which pulls at my heart strings and makes my hands fidgety until I pick the knitting back up again.

The pattern is called "Botanic Hat" and can be found on Ravelry. (Unfortunately, it isn't free.) Pictures of my progress will follow once I have more of the hat finished, and after I find my camera.

I also want to take this opportunity to brag on the bf. My mother came into town yesterday with a friend of hers, who I taught to knit; she picked it up quicker than anyone I've seen and had the most consistent stitches for a beginner, btw. While they were in town, Andrew cooked dinner for them. The menu was stuffed chicken and tortellini with sundried tomato pesto on both. And pound cake with a cinnamon brown sugar crumble on top for dessert. It. Was. So. Good. I just have to say that even though I've only been dating him for about 2 months, I've found a keeper. And mother dearest approves as well :-) If any of you guys live in New York, I'm probably going to end up there next year. It's where Andrew is going to grad school, and I need to find a job there.

He's already made a bunch of stuff from scratch, but alas, not the tortellini. Just the sauce that has gone on it each time he's made it. But he is def a treasure.

Welcome back, we've missed

Welcome back, we've missed you! Sounds like things are going well, which is a good thing. We need to know more about the boyfriend and see more pictures. Now that you have Mother's approval you need MWK's approval. :-)

I actually started another Botanic Hat today. It's a great pattern and one of my favorite hats.

I once read in a Vernon

I once read in a Vernon Howard book that we have various "pools" of energy for different purposes. When we inexplicably lose interest in something, it simply means that we have temporarily exhausted that particular pool of energy and must quietly wait for it to recharge. We know it has recharged when the "itch" returns.

Thank you...I like that

Thank you...I like that description, Albert. That explains a lot of the things going on in my life right now. I thought it was just the usual Winter blahs but it didn't quite feel the same as in the past. Now I won't be so rough on myself over the doldrums concerning the knitting front, etc. -- Books, knitting, cats, fountain pens...Life is Good.

I find I go through the same

I find I go through the same cycle. Two weeks off the needles, four weeks back on, etc. I think it's your hands' subconscious way of requesting a break haha. Glad to hear life is so good =)

Good to hear from you again

Good to hear from you again and glad to hear your life is going well.

Even if the hat knitting doesn't get you back into knitting, you should still stop in here to let us know how you're doing.
