New scarf

I just wanted to show you a picture of a scarf I knit using a pattern I received before Christmas from Iris Schreier, author of MODULAR KNITS. She does a lot of multi-directional designs and will have another book out this year, hopefully in July. She is co-founder of Artyarns (http://www.artyarns.com/) and does wonderful colourways that work perfectly for much of that multi-directional work.

This is not one of her yarns. I liked the design, so thought I would do a sample, a dishcloth, with cotton (as always). I searched through my stash, and found some cotton in a variegated colour and took one ball with me when I went to visit Mom at Christmas. While there, I started it up, and did a few inches, thinking it was about time to cast-off. But Iris didn’t give the ending of the pattern until we posted a pic of our work! I showed it to Mom and she was quite impressed and said I should continue to make it into a scarf. So I did. I finished one ball, and then a second when I got back home. It was still pretty short at this time, and I thought I had a third ball, but couldn’t find it! I sent in my pic, explaining my problem, and I got the ending anyway. I didn’t work on it just then, not sure what to do with a very short scarf! One day, looking for something else, I found another ball of that yarn! I KNEW I had another one! But it ran away and hid.

Anyone chatting?

It's been noticed that whenever I get to the site, and see several other members online, that there is no one in the chatroom! Why is that? Don't you know it's there? Do you not like meeting some of the guys here? Can you get the program to work? Is it me??

We had set up a regular chat schedule at one time and had loads of guys show up! It was fun to meet everyone; I miss those guys! I learned a lot too.

Since no one has taken the time to organize this again (not going to mention anyone's name here, will I Parrot?), I am going to suggest that certain times are going to be more likely when you will find someone else here. Perhaps Sunday afternoons, from noon to 6 pm EST -- that should catch most people around the world. I know it will be awkward for those of you in Asia and Australia -- is there any times that work better for you? Saturday? And perhaps during the week, evenings, from 6 pm to midnight EST? If anyone has other times that work for you, please suggest those too. We are going to be discussing some other options to chatting other than the program here.

When you come to the site, and see a list of several guys online, check into the chatroom. See the buttons at the top of the page? Just click on the "chat" button! At the bottom of the window that opens is "Monitor Activity" -- when it is checked, the window will pop up whenever anyone comes into the room. Meanwhile, you can go about your reading and surfing without sitting and waiting for someone else to come into the room.

Finished green rovings

Late this summer, I posted to my blog some pics showing that I had a huge stash. I had finally collected them all from the storage places, and put it into one space. A lady from Ontario said she had some roving she wasn't going to use, and did I want it? What was she thinking? So I did the only thing I could do ---

It arrived in mid-August and I set to spinning it. I took some with me when I went to see Mom, and did one skein while there, and I have just finished the rest of it this week. They are mostly in a teal/blue colour, and a pale grey/green shade... actually quite nice when spun. I did all of this on the CD spindle. Each skein is 4 oz. They are all 3-ply because I like the round yarns better. I put in quite a lot of twist into the singles, and they will have good definition in the stitch patterns. I have a feeling it may all go into some kind of Aran sweater. We'll see.

I'm working on some white and some dark brown right now. The white was wonderful to spin, and is incredibly soft. I don't know what breed of sheep it is, but I don't often come across an unlabelled roving this nice.

I'll see if I can post some pics as well. I wish there were some inst

Yarn sale

For those of you that like certain Lion Brand or Paton's yarns, there is a place in Manhattan that is having their semi-annual sale, and have started it online too. Smileys Yarns offers premium quality knitting yarns and crochet yarns starting at the unbelievable price of just $1.00.

http://www.smileysyarns.com/

I have never ordered from them, since they don't ship to Canada! But I sure do like the Bernat Handicrafter cotton for dishcloths and for practice pieces -- and at a $1!! It's quite a bit more expensive here, you understand. No affiliation, just heard about their sale, and I know how some of you like good bargains!

new DVDs available

You may recall I mentioned that I had ordered some new DVDs from Lucy Neatby.  Well, I got two of them last night, and had to skim through them.

WOW!  So much in there, and really well done.  I really like Lucy and enjoy her teaching style.  She presents these techniques in a very easy, simple, clear manner.  She has excellent views of what she is doing, really close-up, so you see it from the knitter's viewpoint, which is really necessary to know what is going on.  She covers all the topics, from beginning cast on, through gauge, circular or dp knitting, seams, cutting your knitting....oh, it covers it all!
