Real Men Knit video

New video in the works - REAL MEN KNIT!

I am an independent video producer and have decided to concentrate on two of my favorite subjects: knitting and men. I have knitted forever myself and through the years have known one or two men who knit but now that it's a growing past-time and passion for many more and I am excited about exploring it in my part instructional/part inspiration video.

I'm looking for men of all ages and types who might be interested in being interviewed for the video. I am putting together a light-hearted segment of stories, opinions, etc. from men who knit so the more variety I can find, the better. I am in central California and plan to travel around the state in the next few months, as well as a trip to Toronto at the end of this month. Unfortunately my budget is not going to allow me to travel the country state by state, but if I find a proliferation of interesting knitting guys in a particular location, I'll try to get there.

Stripes in The Round

I was going through some notes that I have and found this handy hint.

Knitting Jogless Stripes in the Round:

(This only works if you have a minimum of 2 rows per stripe)

Knit 1 round of the new colour.

When faced with the first stitch of the second round: pick up a loopof the first colour from the preceding row an place it on the left needle. Knit together both the first stitch of the new colour and the picked up stitch of the previous row. Continue knitting around.

Web Links Are Back

I got the web link section working again, but unfortunately had to trash all of the links.  It's pretty sparse now, but I know all you internet-enabled knitters have amazing bookmark collections and I encourage you to post your favorites on the site for everyone's benefit.  I'll be adding more, as well!

It's DONE.

I got my design sent in to MenKnit last week after the blocking fiasco, and the second looks just as good as the first did.  And I just finished the fringe on the THIRD one, the one that my boss at the yarn store commissioned for a store model.  I'll block it tomorrow and get it up to her on Tuesday before I head to Ohio for vacation.  And another friend wants one for a Christmas gift for someone in his life too.  (And yeah, I'm purposefully being a little cryptic about it, since I don't know if it's gonna get published.  If it does, I'll make big squealy noises and point it out.)

Now I've just got the shawl and poncho for a friend in Michigan, a baby blanket for some friends, and then I get to work on my sweater.  It won't be ready this winter, alas, but next winter, most definitely I'll be wearing my Galway Guy.

New book in the works!

Here's a great opportunity to be involved in a new book!

Annie Modesitt (the knitting heretic) and Drew Emborsky (the crochet dude) are writing a book called Men Who Knit (and the Dogs Who Love Them).

They are looking for stories about men who knit!  THAT'S YOU!!!

They are also looking for knitters to help knit the sample sweaters and other projects for the book.

All the information you need is here:

Knitting for Katrina survivors

 Hi guys

I have a couple of baby blankets that I knitted earlier this year & some cute Ann Norling hats. I want to donate them to the folks in need down south. I'm waiting to hear back from Americares as to where to send them. I can't be the only one among us who has finished and/or near finished projects that ould be of use.
If any of you want to support this please let me know and I will pass on the information as and when I get it.
best,
Martin

Mentioned in article

I'm sure this is old news for most, but Men Who Knit was mentioned in an article in the recent manly issue of Knitty.

The good word comes from David Demchuk's article Knit Like a Man.

If you haven't yet read David's article, be sure to check it out!

WYSIWYG Editor

WYSISYG is back!  I've installed TinyMCE and it's available for all to use. Safari and Opera compatibility is limited, so if you are a Mac or Opera user, your best best is to use Firefox or disable the Rich Text Editor in your user profile. Underneath each textarea, you can also disable rich text editing on the fly.

One of the nice things is that you can easily insert images in to your entries, not just as attachments.  Here's my suggestion on how best to do this:

1. Open a free Flickr account at http://www.flickr.com
2. Upload the image you want to insert to Flickr
3.

*le sigh*

Since I know I'm safe to post here because he doesn't read this, I just need to share a tale of woe.

So I designed and knit a scarf for the upcoming issue of MenKnit. On Friday, I had wet it down to block it and had it wrapped in a towel to dry it out, and laid the towel across the back of our couch. I had a photo shoot on Saturday and was gone for about 3 hours for it.

In his defense, I didn't tell my partner what the towel was. He's also a compulsive Virgo, which means that he NEEDS to clean.

I got home from the shoot and sat down at my computer. About 10 minutes later, I turned around to look at him where he was crocheting on the couch. I noticed that the towel was gone. In the back of my mind, I also noticed that the washing machine was running.
