Four months later...

It's been several months since I've posted anything. Here's a quick update: Doing a toque for my daughter, boxed up the scarf for my deployed friend, finished a dressy scarf for my MIL, and a fun scarf for a good friend. I've got a bin full of yarn, and I'm packing it all up to move to Savannah, Georgia. Yeah, I'll really fit in there! well, it'll be fun. Are there any knitters here in Savannah? Let me know... I'll be there mid-December.

Hi Everyone:

My name is Andy, I live in San Francisco, I work with knitting and crochet. I have been Knitting since 1988.  Right now for the holidays I am working on some Knitted hats, nothing fancy like David's cabled skull cabs, but cool enough to say nice hat.  Have a nice weekend.   Here is one of my hats, half acrylic, havlf chunky wooll ease.

Working On New Website

My buddy who is also my roommate and I are building our website.  The name of it isn't official yet but we're thinking we might call it Cool Guy's Knit.  Anyway this website is going to serve as our storefront for selling the hats, scarfs and jewelry that we make.  It's also going to have photo galleries of places we have both traveled to, a tatoo photo gallery, pages relating to trance music, some affiliate stuff and lot's of other cool things.  We are hoping to launch the site officially by January 2006 but it could be later.

I'll post the address to the site later on after I've had a chance to get more work done on it :-)

A big win

I just made my first slipper.  Very cool.  It's a felted slipper using Alafos Lopi (sp) and despite a couple of mistakes that I made along the way it worked out pretty well.   I've been off sick today and been wearing one slipper around the house - testing it for it's worthiness as a mode for some Christmas presents.  I went to the yarn shop yesterday to find another ball of the same colour I used and, Murphy was there - they had everything but :) Oh well.

I'm going to make a matching set for a couple (variations in colour).

The pattern is at kitty.com

I Want More Men Knitting

OK, I'm a female, but I truly want to promote men's knitting. I have a sixteen year old son and I think he would get a great deal out of knitting but I certainly can't be the one to "inspire" him. I only know one guy who knits and he is WAY cool.

I live near Tacoma WA so here's a shout out to any of you guys in the area. Hope to see you at Madrona!

Another male knitter, maybe.

A friend just called and told me he was crocheting!!  He is coming to visit for Thanksgiving and wants me to show him how to knit.  This is very exciting as I am hoping it will be something he grows to like and it will keep his hands busy instead of holding cigarettes!!  When I talked to him he was excited that he was actually able to create something.  I told him that is part of what draws me to knitting is that I MADE IT!!  I doubt I will ever become the knitter some of you other posters are but the fact that I am able to make something that is not only attractive but useful is hugely satisying.

Madrona Fiber Arts Winter Retreat

Hey boys,

I am making plans to attend the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival in Feb this coming year, in Tacoma, WA. Has anyone ever been??? A friend of mine lives in Gig Habor, WA and invited me to attend with her. I am sooooo excited, but would love to hear from anyone who has heard of it and/or attended. From what I have read and heard they have fiber vendors and classes on everything from spinning to knitting and BEYOND! So...let me hear from you.

Always knit for fun!!!!

Who knew submission could feel so good?

This past summer, when the men's issue of Knitty was announced, I considered throwing my hat in the ring. Procrastination and other knitted distractions never got the sketches and swatches made into a completed item. However, my jaw droppd when I saw a very similar pattern that did get published. I still believed in my pattern, specifically, one innovative element.

Then, the good fellows at MenKnit were getting ready to publish their inaugural issue. Some hasty knitting, a flurry of emails, and a fast-approaching deadline saw the birth of my dream, save some felting. The next thing I knew, I was in Poland and Eastern Europe for three weeks, and there was no way I could felt across the ocean.

Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair

Last weekend I went, for the first time, to the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair near Asheville, NC.  As I am a new knitter I did not think I would be there long, maybe a couple hours max partly due to the fact my partner was coming with and he is not a knitter.  Long story short we were there about 4 hours the first day and 3 hours the next day.  There were fiber vendors from all over and there were a number of classes that were offered too.  First off there was an amazing array of ready to knit fiber as well as unspun fiber.  They had alpaca, llama, sheep, and angora rabbits there as well, the animals as well as their fiber.  Probably the coolest part was watching the animal to loom demonstration.  They should all the steps on how the fiber makes it to the loom.  I had been interested in spinning myself and while there learned the basics of using a drop spindle.  Surprisingly, my partner showed quite an interest in weaving! I think because it involves machinery and is more technical at least in set up (IMO) he was more interested.  Check out the site saffsite.org , did not know how to make a link.  I have already spun my first 4oz of wool and will be working toward making it knittable.  Yesterday I bought a pound of wool to spin once I get my spindle clear.  Will be working to finish my 3rd scarf by Thanksgiving as it is for a friend who is coming to visit....cashemere, so soft!!
