Initialed Scarf.... Possible without Crochet?

So I was talking to a friend, and he wants a black scarf with is three initials AMC at the end of the scarf. I can't find any patterns for doing this, for knitting alone. This makes me wonder if I have to crochet in the letters, or how that would work? I have no clue. I found that there might be an article in the April 2004 issue of Knit N' Style labeled "Initial Scarf--Alpacas in America". Other than that, I can't find any info on how to do the initials.

Being only a quarter of the way done with my first project, should I just say tough luck, I'm knitting a normal scarf no initials, or knt the scarf and stitch in the initials afterwards, or keep my hopes up that I will find a pattern?

I don't know how to crochet, but am an eager learner. If that's the right route to take for creating initials, then that's the route I'll take.

Input? Thanks!

Hat

Every morning when I walk my kids to school, we go past a kid on safety patrol who's not wearing a hat, so I made him one. Here's a picture of my son modeling it. Basic, but warm!

Oklahoma Hospitality

Hello Men,

Just back from my foray into the heartland of Oklahoma. It was wonderful to meet Okknitguy - we had a fabulous dinner at a Mexican restaurant together. We didn't make it to the yarn store while I was there, so I will have to save that for my next trip.

However, I'm very pleased with a new book that I found while I was there: Mason Dixon Knitting, the Curious Knitter's Guide, by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne. Wonderful stuff, light hearted, good pitures, and a great way to knock anyone out of a creative slump. I highly recommend it. Put it on your list for the Holidays!

Sticks & String - Podcast

There is a great podcast called "Sticks & String" by David Reidy, an Aussie knitting bloke. This can be found at http://sticksandstring.wordpress.com/

Dave has done only 6 shows to date and all are pleasant to listen you. He has a definite male energy about his programming which I enjoy. In addition, he is doing a great job raising the profile of men knitters.

To be honest, I'd never heard a podcast before but now I'm very keen to hear more. He has links to other podcasts about knitting, a couple of which are by guys.

Oh No ... Help??

Hello Everyone!!!

So, .... I am knitting a mock cabled scarf (LOVE IT By the way) and I'm knitting it out of patagonia nature cotton (color #210). This is where my trauma comes in ... I fell in love with the color-way at the LYS and I bought it. Well ...... It was on sale and there were only two left. I know ... I know ... I should never buy yarn on sale since I will NEVER have enough. *lol*

Now, I am on the verge of running out; I need about 10 more yards or so I think. Does anyone know how or where I can get an additional ball? I have been able to find it random places online , but I would like someplace that is known and can be trusted.

Another Strange But True

We changed the location of our Dallas knitting group, "Fruits and Fibers", to my bar for the first time last month.

My boss really got into the meeting and picked up a pair of needles and spent the night casting on and got the 'bug'.

Our next meeting is Monday and today Bruce, his partner, and this is true, turned to me and said, "I have got to go out and get Mike a pair of 'beginner' needles"; he was serious. (Bruce, that's what you get for growing up in Odessa)

I almost fell off my bourbon.
