In Bens' post on the progress of his clogs he brought up an interesting subject concerning the weak stitch at the heel where it is intitially joined in the round. I too have had that problem and have always tightened it up a bit at the end and all has been well and good.
However, and I don't remember where I read this, whenever I do a piece in the round someone suggested casting on an extra stitch and ktog when making the join and it has always worked for me in the past. Obviously you can't do that at that point in the clog. So this morning when I got to the join I ktog and immediately did a M1 to recover the stitch. I may hopeful but it seems to be a firmer join.
Well now that i am no longer really a newbie to thgis website, I am starting to learn what it has to offer.
Compared to what I have seen around here I am still a very amature knittier... Which is fine with me I will learn with time. I was the same with my artist drawing skills they did not happen right away either... I think being an artist has helped with my creativity in making my own patterns for dish clothes and wanting to try new things.
Well I guess this is all for know. I will write more in days to come. When I can actually find time to between working and home life.
After frogging the first clog back to it's origins on Tuesday, I finaly finished it this morning. I'm going to start the second today and take it with me when I go to California next week. After all, it's going to end up there anyway.
There's been some good work being shown by Justin and Ben. Good going guys! And JPaul.... I have to, ahemm, ask, is yours getting any bigger yet?
How 'bout the rest of you. Making progress? Thoughts? Do you hate me for getting you all into this???
From his many song, one song really like is "Only You"...When 80's ...This song was really popuer song by Yazoo. It is remix by Makana..He his great voice and guiter sound..Its sooooo beutiful~~~~
My music choice depends on what I’m making, but, for the most part, these are the artists I listen to most while knitting:
Ani DiFranco, Bjork, Chemical Brothers, Cibo Matto, Coldplay, Fiona Apple, Interpol, Ladytron, Le Tigre, Nine Inch Nails, Rilo Kiley, Rufus Wainwright, Seabound, Tegan and Sara, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, and VNV Nation
What about you boys?
Finished the 1st pair.
Not a stellar success, one turned out lopsided and I grabbed the wrong needles to knit up its brother... and did not notice till I was doing the final bind off.
Fortunately, these little mistakes are hidden in the final product. I just let one felt longer than the other and it's all the same. Or at least close enough for me.
Well I felted my first pair of clogs last night.
There were a few tense moments in the process but overall I think they came out alright.
Given that I had a made a few mistakes in knitting the first clog I decided to felt them individually. That way I could shape the one I had knitted correctly to the size I wanted and then work on getting the second one to conform to size.
Clog one felted just fine but about half way through, when I pulled the piece out to check on its progress, I noticed that the heel stitches had come loose. There was a small hole on the back bumper between the two soles. I added a few extra stitches using a large and very sharp needle and then continued the felting process. The piece came out great but it had a much furrier exterior than I expected.
Please forgive me for just posting about the knitted river all the time, it's because it's (almost) the biggest thing in my life at the moment.
We have posters available if any one would like one for display in the lys or church hall or anywhere(!). It would be great to have a poster next to every water cooler is the western world.
the poster is also available as pdf but I'd love to send them through the post. If you are interested email your deatils and the amount and I'll get right to it.
I apologize for my lack of action in our men who knit group. I am still around, extremely busy with my MSN group and learning to Quilt. I am embarking in a very interesting craft alongside knitting and crocheting, quilting.
I have gone to Puerto Rico to visit in January and I am have been back. What else? Just enjoying this beautiufl life one day at a time. Got a tatto, and I am planning my 30th High School reunion in 2008. Growing my beard and thinking of making some new knitted hats.
Thanks for allowing me to share
I'll admit that sometimes some part of my brain simply takes a vacation, which can result in all kinds of interesting challenges.
Take the clogs. They are fairly easy, straightforward with just a few rows that you really have to pay attention to, right? Well, after starting them over THREE times, I realized I skipped over the very first instruction to use the sole/cuff color. Ribbit, Ribbit. Fourth time, correct color, I realized I messed up in row two many stitches ago on the M1 by knitting into it regularly instead of through the back loop. Tried tinking, but messed that up, too. RIIIP! Well, I guess I've paid enough dues because on the FIFTH time starting over, I got through row 2 ok, then on row 4 ended up with the right number of total stitches, but had 3 more on the left needle by the time I should have gotten to the end of the row. It's a mistake that STAYS!
